WWE Smackdown Hits
Rey Mysterio vs. Kane vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Alberto Del Rio: This was a fun match that played up the fourway concept well. By the end, it reminded me of those multiman matches in wrestling video games where no matter what you do, you can't get a pin. I'm not a fan of who won, but I don't know that there was a better choice considering who was in the match. Rey would upset the apple cart in a one on one with Sheamus because he would be the bigger fan favorite. Bryan is wrapped up in the AJ saga. And Kane just doesn't need to be in the title picture as a legitimate contender.
Christian vs. The Miz: Another match that was entertaining, but right now I worry about what it means. The Intercontinental Title has been beat up pretty bad as of late, what with the quick title changes and lack of story around the title itself. Miz has an opportunity, and the skill, to bring prestige back to the title again if WWE will book him right. Don't get me wrong, this is a definite Hit as it is a step in the right direction. Let's hope WWE and Miz keep walking down that path.
Chris Jericho: Jericho antics in attacking Dolph Ziggler were priceless. From wearing Ziggler's t-shirt to his facial expressions, everything about this moment was a Hit. Is this a full babyface turn? Maybe, but whether it is or it isn't, the fans seemed to like the idea of cheering Y2J again. The best part is that Jericho can take young Dolph Ziggler and make him look like a complete threat with the briefcase. This just proves that smart booking can take you far. If only all of the show was booked this smart.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Sheamus vs. Cody Rhodes: From a pure match standpoint, this was a Hit. When you look at the segment as a whole though, I see a total and complete Miss. Cody Rhodes has been nothing but marginalized since WrestleMania. Taking another clean loss here continues his debasement. It would be different if Sheamus gained anything from this win, but he doesn't. Couple that with Ziggler sitting at ringside with the briefcase drawing attention away (though this is not 100% bad) and you have a moment that was fun to watch, but long term was a huge waste of time.
Lower card support: And speaking of huge wastes of time, how much longer are we going to see the likes of Ryback, Damien Sandow, and Antonio Cesaro wrestling in meaningless matches that do nothing to enhance their characters or make fans care one way or the other about them? Cesaro seems to be on the beginning of a US title hunt, so maybe not all is lost with him. The other two are treated well, especially Sandow's rub from DX, but their matches and segments are meaningless because they have no direction. Both men need to be on a path of some sorts (read: real feud) to push them to the next level of stardom.
