Shore's WWE Over the Limit preview and predictions: Sheamus vs. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship, CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship, and John Cena vs. John Laurinaitis
May 20, 2012 - 05:50 PM

The following predictions are made without any knowledge of the planned finishes. They are my guesses based on what I see on WWE TV each week.

John Laurinaitis vs. John Cena: This one could go a number of ways. We should definitely expect shenanigans, the question is how long will it go on before we see them. It all depends on how many matches are added tot he card as the night goes on. The most likely scenario has Big Show interfering on Laurinaitis's behalf to get his job back. That's booking 101 and is probably what we will see.

What I would like to see is a continuation of the Big Show storyline to make it a little less obvious. Have Show interfere on Cena's behalf, only to have Brock Lesnar, who quit and therefore doesn't have to worry about being fired, interfere for Ace. I know it seems unnecessary to have Show side Cena, but think of how cool the swerve would be when Show looks like he's about to punch Cena, only to knock out Ace, and then while they are celebrating Lesnar runs in. Whatever the method, they have invested too much time in Laurinaitis to pull the plug right here unless they were completely done with him, and his 10 minute opening monologue on the go home Smackdown says they are far from done.

Prediction: John Laurinaitis wins.

CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship: Who would have thought the WWE championship would ever come down to these two? I'm willing to bet these two talked about it back in the day, but I doubt either really believed it would happen. And for good reason. Both of these guys are "small" and do not fit the WWE mold. Sure, there have been some who have broken that mold, but the number is very small when compared to the muscle heads and giants who have held the title.

In Dot Net Weekly I said that I expected them to hold these guys back so as not to overshadow Ace and Cena. I'm going to go the other way, but for a lot of the same reason. Ace and Cena will not be much of a wrestling match. The Fatal Fourway is going to be all over the place, and nothing else jumps out as a super matchup (at least not that will get much time). I'm not saying they have a five star classic here, but look for them to go for some time. I also expect AJ to make her move, and side with Bryan to give him the title.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the WWE Championship.

Sheamus vs. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship: There's a lot to digest with this match. The easy pick is Sheamus, and I am taking chalk here, but not because it is chalk per se. Sheamus is getting over well as the champion, and there are three feuds right here he can build with. Del Rio may have lost his charm, and Jericho might be on his way out, but both men could give Sheamus a short run that would do good money.

Orton is the wild card because he's been on the virtual shelf for some time now. I have no idea if Orton is tired of sitting there doing nothing, but if he is, then the title change could come here just to give him something to placate him. Orton is known for complaining, but he has shown over the last 18 months that he's willing to do business, so I don't expect him to be pining for the title. Still, his upcoming feud with Sheamus looks to be the most entetaining, no matter which man holds the belt.

Prediction: Sheamus retains the World Heavyweight Championship.

Beth Phoenix vs. Layla for the Divas Championship: I'm not sure I could physically care less about the Divas at this point. I have tried to be the lone voice in the wilderness, but WWE has finally gotten to me. From this point forward, all Divas matches get the Kharma prediction until she shows and we get a decent story.

Prediction: Kharma redebuts and kills everyone.

R-Truth and Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler for the Tag Team Championships: I expect this to be a highly entertaining filler match. The tag titles mean almost nothing, and what they do mean is best attached to AW and his All World group right now. Epico and Primo need to win the titles back from the babyfaces, not take them from a heel team. I give this eight minutes and a Kofi Kingtson trouble in paradise win.

Prediction: R-Truth and Kofi Kingston retain the tag titles

Zack Ryder vs. Kane: I want to type some long and drawn out idea here, but I think this is as simple as Ryder getting his heat back from Kane. The only problem is, it's been so long that I don't think Ryder actually gains any heat from his win. This could still be a very good match as Ryder can go and Kane has shown time and again (including this Friday) that he is no slouch in the ring.

Prediction: Zack Ryder wins

Special Bonus Prediction - Ryback: We should have at least one match added to the show, and I expect we'll get another squash from Ryback here. It may even be against someone of name to allow him to move into a feud. They have been having him squash regular roster people as of late, and he seems the most built up at this point to move into a regular feud. It could be Antonio Cesaro here, or even the Funkasaurus, but I'm going with Ryback as the extra match.
