Shore's WrestleMania 28 Preview and Predictions: The winners at the biggest show of the year, John Cena vs. The Rock, Triple H vs. Undertaker w/Shawn Michaels as referee in Hell in a Cell
Apr 1, 2012 - 11:02 AM

By Chris Shore

The following WrestleMania 28 predictions are made with no prior knowledge of the planned finishes. I am guessing based upon what I think WWE will do. If you want to hear my full thoughts on each match, be sure to check out the All Access WrestleMania Preview podcast on the main page.

John Cena vs. The Rock: From the day this was announced I have known who would win this match if there was a clean finish. The clean finish however, has never been more in doubt. Brock Lesnar is in Miami, that much is known. Everything else is a mystery. That's how it should be. This match has been built for a year and it has struggled to catch fire. The final promo on Raw was enough to light the fuse, and the Lesnar speculation is just gasoline on the fire. I'm going to make a definitive pick here, but I have little confidence in a clean finish. If there are shenanigans, and I do expect them, then nobody wins this match.

Prediction: John Cena wins via pinfall.

Undertaker vs. Triple H with Shawn Michaels as the Special Guest Referee in a Hell in a Cell Match: This match has the least ambiguity for me. The Undertaker's streak will never end. I know people have talked about it ending with some young gun getting the rub and whatnot, but there's no reason. Beating a 50 year old Undertaker at WrestleMania 32 does nothing for anyone. Mark Calloway has earned the right to end his career undefeated at Mania. Look for Shawn Michaels to help/hurt both men before this is through, but expect Undertaker to be victorious again.

Prediction: Undertaker wins via pinfall.

CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE Championship: I'm very back and forth on this one. On one hand, Chris Jericho needs a win to remain credible. He might be the guy who can easily get his heat back on the mic, but I think a loss here does too much damage to him. On the other, why move the belt off Punk when Jericho is going to be going away in a few months for his summer music tour? Punk pointed out they aren't hot shotting the title around, so why make the move? Ultimately I think this gets a DQ with Punk losing control and Jericho able to use that in promos over the next month, pointing out how close Punk is to slipping out of the straight edge lifestyle, to build for an Extreme Rules match.

Prediction: Chris Jericho wins by disqualification.

Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan for the World Heavyweight Championship: I picked Daniel Bryan in audio, and I'm going to stay with that pick here, but every minute we get closer to go time I move a little closer to Sheamus. Bryan has been fantastic recently, and AJ's ambiguous role of tortured babyface vs. wily heel might be the best story on Smackdown. I felt like he needed the title to keep that going, but I'm not so sure those two scheming to get the title back wouldn't be better. Still, I'm keeping my pick for the sake of consistency.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins via pinfall.

Team Laurinaitis vs. Team Long: This match has schmoz written all over it. Besides the fact that it's a 12 man match, there's just so many stories that are connected to it. I think the most important is Zack Ryder and Eve. Ryder as the love struck heel could be a great character for him, and Eve has been absolutely great in a role I would like to see her continue. Not to mention I am personally sick of Teddy Long. The whole idea of control coming down to a match has always annoyed me, much like the story of control in general has annoyed me, but if it gets good stories coming out of it, I'll forgive it.

Prediction: Zack Ryder "turns" to help Team Laurinaitis win.

Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship: This is the other match I'm all over the map about. Here's what I know, Big Show does not need the title, Cody Rhodes does, and the IC is better on Rhodes than on Show. Does that mean anything to Vince McMahon at the end of the day? No. I think this goes to Extreme Rules, so I'm revising my pick from audio just a bit. I had Cody retaining in some way, but now I'm going to swap it out to Cody winning out right to enrage Show more so Show can kill him next month.

Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins via pinfall.

Kane vs. Randy Orton: I actually forgot about this match writing this article. I like both guys, but the build for this has been lackluster, and that's being kind. Orton has no reason to lose, except that this might be the Extreme Rules match as well. So Kane has an outside chance of winning here for that reason. Still, I expect Orton to come out on top.

Prediction: Randy Orton wins via pinfall.

Maria Menounos and Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix and Eve. With an expected Eve involvement in the big tag match, I'm interested to see how much time she gets here. Of course just because she is the catalyst for shenanigans in the tag match doesn't mean we will see that until tomorrow on Raw. The story here, of course, is how limited Maria Menounos is with her broken ribs. I didn't expect much to begin with, but do they really want her to do anything at this point? It would make more sense to have her pull out and put somebody else there, but who knows what happens? Either way, expect the babyface team to win, and look for Eve to take the finish to keep Beth strong.

Prediction: Kelly Kelly and her partner (Maria or otherwise) win via pinfall.

Epico and Primo vs. The Usos vs. Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel in a triple threat match for the WWE Tag Team Championships: This match has been added to the YouTube pre-show because hey, that tag titles aren't important anymore. What a shame. At any rate, Epico and Primo have been good here, and I see no reason to move the titles, but I'm going to go with the Usos just because they were slated to win them before one of them got a DUI. This feels like a make up match to me.

Prediction: The Usos win via pinfall.
