WWE Smackdown Hits
Mark Henry: If you would have told me a year ago that I would think Mark Henry was the best thing on Smackdown, I would have asked you for your supplier of meds. And yet here we are, with Henry being the hands down best thing to see on Friday nights. He has found his groove on the mic, and has even improved in the ring. He is the reason I watch Friday Night Smackdown now, no question. Well, that and my paycheck, of course.
Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes: This was a good match, if a little predictable. I think Jake Barnett was right in the All Access podcast when he said it was essentially the same story they did with Ted DiBiase and Orton a couple of weeks ago. The match started flat, but grew to a nice pace after the commercial. And aside from just a slight hesitation at the very end for the RKO, the finishing sequence was a lot of fun. I don't know that you go out of your way to see this match, but it is worth sitting through if it's on in front of you.
Sin Cara vs. Daniel Brian: No, they didn't wrestle last night, but the match with Tyson Kidd is hardly worth mentioning as it was the same Sin Cara squash we've seen for weeks. Instead, I'll focus on what should be a very exciting feud, if done properly, between Brian and Sin Cara. I do think it is a mistake to use Brian as the launch pad for the inevitable good Sin Car vs. bad Sin Cara, but Brian can make Sin Cara (either one) look like a champ when they're in the ring, so I guess I understand it even if I don't like it.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Wade Barrett vs. Sheamus: This was a good match, but I barely watched it because I was waiting for the Christian run-in. I realize they needed to plant the seeds before they had Christian attack, but this is why you don't book on the fly. You plant that seed a week ago and this match is much, much better because we're not watching the entrance ramp. It's a little thing, but the little things make all the difference in the world.
Jinder Mahal and Great Khali payoff: Really? This story has sunk to its lowest point and now we get the turn? What happened to this story? I thought they had something going for them as I was excited to see Khali for the first time since…well, ever. It just doesn't make sense to me how they lost control of this story. The "sister's honor" thing may be over big in India, but it doesn't make sense on American television. This is almost as lame as texting yourself. Almost.
Kelly Kelly: This is going to be my last throw down on Kelly, simply because it doesn't matter. But I sat there last night and watched her brush off the ropes and fake her intensity and flip her hair and I wanted to gag. I'm all for pretty women, but for the love of God, hit the ropes! Again, it's the little things. I'm not the guy who thinks Kelly doesn't have a place, she does. And I don't mind her being champion per se, because I understand why she is good for business. If I'm running WWE, I probably make her champ as well. But I would damn sure demand she learn to run the ropes.
