WWE Smackdown Hits
Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston: They should compile this feud and release a DVD called, “Overbooked: A Collection of Non Clean Endings.” In all seriousness, the angle is a little interesting. Seeing how Dolph will escape the newest stipulations with Vickie’s help is at least something to look forward too. And they continue to impress in the ring, even after they’ve wrestled each other about a gazillion times now. I assume this will ultimately end up in a cage match, which ought to provide some interesting spots. This was the match of the night, though it didn’t really have much in the way of competition for that award.
Kane and Undertaker: I never thought I would say this, but Kane was the best one of the two here. He carried Taker in this promo, and continues to just wow with his mic skills. He’s got to be writing most of this, and if he isn’t, how did he suddenly get so good? Kane’s been holding out. This feud gets better and better every week, and I’m really ashamed that I lost it when Kane was revealed as the attacker. They have done a great job with this in spite of the obviousness with which it played out.
CM Punk: Punk was a hit, even if his match was a miss due to the fact that his opponent sucks like a $2 whore. His post-match promo was also well done, though I think they are doing an overall poor job of creating tension within the SES. I’m not entirely sure where they are going with this angle, especially with Serena being released, but it just feels rushed and a little disconnected right now. And yet Punk still delivers excellence no matter how rough the storyline is.
Alberto del Rio: His match was a squash match, so a miss there. But his beatdown of Rey was fantastic, especially the chair spot, and he just exudes douchebaggery. I mean the guy makes you want to punch him in the mouth to get that stupid grin off his face. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call a great heel. This guy is going to be something very soon.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Big Show vs. Luke Gallows: I’m not going to belabor the point here, but Gallows should never, ever be squashed. I understand it’s Big Show, but Gallows is huge in his own right. The idea that anybody could man handle him is the single most preposterous thing I can think of. Terrible.
Kane vs. Rey Mysterio: This was bad on many different levels. The match was poorly wrestled, and we’ve seen it so many times now that you can’t even get up for it emotionally. The end spot was the only thing worth watching, which is never the way a match wants to be remembered.
Jack Swagger vs. MVP: This was roundly cheered in the members forum, but I didn’t get it. The DQ finish was lame on top of lame, and then they just moved on after the ankle lock. No time was spent advancing the storyline, and it just seemed like a waste.
Overall Show: A mediocre show at best. We had a lot of ups and downs and no momentum was ever established. By comparison, last week flew by while this week seemed to drag a little. Not the worst Smackdown I’ve ever seen, but pretty rough.
