WWE Smackdown Hits

Nothing: It has been a long, long time since there was nothing worth seeing on any wrestling show, but Smackdown managed to reach those depths with this episode. The show failed to hype Survivor Series in any meaningful way. The segments that tried to hype the show failed miserably, and there was a long replay of the terrible opening segment from Monday's Raw. The only reason to even watch this show is to see how bad a wrestling show can be even for WWE.

WWE Smackdown Misses

The Wyatts: WWE is starting to do some damage to my interest level with the Wyatts and I can't be the only one. What started off as a surprising and hot feud with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan has turned into a lackluster and virtually meaningless matchup. The family looked good in their match with the Usos, but the match did nothing to add heat to the act, and any good done there was wiped out when the babyfaces made them look like complete dopes in the main event segment. Punk and Bryan have had their was far too often with the family since that initial attack, and it has pummeled the feud to an almost dead state.

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan: On the other side of the coin, the babyfaces haven't given us anything to sink our teeth into either. Bryan and Punk did a promo on this show that was so big of a miss they came across as mid-card players and not the (arguably) two hottest stars in the company. I'm not sure if they are being given crap to work with of they just recognize how poorly this is being booked and are having a hard time getting up for it, but the only announced match for Survivor Series that has any juice behind it is bleeding heat at an astronomical rate, and it's on both sides of the feud.

John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio arm wrestling: Putting aside the stupidity of the arm wrestling concept, and putting aside the lack of an actual arm wrestling table, and putting aside that Del Rio's Mexican bit doesn't carry the same weight in Europe as it does in America, this was a terrible segment. Cena looked like a dope for falling into the attack of the second arm wrestling attempt, and Del Rio looks like a chump for having Cena beat him in 0.0000001 microseconds on the first attempt. The table spot at the end pretty much guarantees we see a TLC or table match with these two next month, and I have no idea how they keep any interest in this feud for that long considering its sorry state right now.

Filler matches: Great Khali vs. Hunico and Camacho? R-Truth and the Prime Time Players vs. the Union Jacks/3MB? Two Divas matches? Does WWE not realize they have a PPV to sell? Sure, Natalya vs. Tamina can be directly tied to an expected PPV match, but the segment was so short and moved on from so quickly that it had no effect. I realize Smackdown is the "B show" but surely to god they could have built something for Survivor Series on this show. Or at the very least they could have done something interesting.
