The following predictions are made with no foreknowledge of the planned finishes. I'm basing my picks on what I see on TV each week. In other words, I'm guessing, just like you.
John Cena vs. Big Show in a cage match. If Show loses, John Laurinaitis is fired. If John Cena loses, he is fired.: This match is the epitome of how everything gets recycled too much in WWE. This is the third time since April that John Laurinaitis's job has been on the line. If Cena loses, this will be the third time in 19 months he has been fired. Not to mention how many times we have seen Cena vs. Big Show in the past seven years.
Still, WWE did the best they could to make this seems fresh. Big Show is playing Mark Henry's character from last year, a character that I really like. In fact, Show's history of silliness makes it an even better character for him than Henry. That said, he needs the win here to make it stick. Cena has been fired before, and I fully expect him to get fired here. He may even take some time away with the divorce. Try not to get too excited, yeah?
Prediction: Big Show defeats John Cena.
CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane for the WWE Championship: This one is the toughest pick of the night. I can honestly see them going in any of the three directions here with both the belt and AJ. I do think that AJ and the title end up with the same person, no matter who it is. This build has been great, and the ambiguity is a nice touch that I didn't expect.
Now I don't think every choice is a good one. Even though they have done a nice job with Kane and AJ, that's not the way they should go. CM Punk retaining with some shenanigans from AJ could lead to some good promo work from Bryan. Ultimately though, I think this is where they pull the trigger and Daniel Bryan becomes the WWE Champion, with help from AJ.
Prediction: Daniel Bryan wins the WWE Championship.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Sheamus for the World Heavyweight Championship: I'm going to pick with my head here, but my heart is screaming for Ziggler to win this match. In fact, I'll even take Kane in the WWE title match if it means a Ziggler win here. I have said for over a year now that Dolph Ziggler could be a Ric Flair type heel champion who makes babyfaces look like a million bucks but never seems to lose the title. He has all the potential in the world, and the smart thing for WWE to do is give him a good long run with that belt and build stars on the blue brand. That said, I don't see it happening, no matter how much I want it.
Prediction: Sheamus retains the World Heavyweight Championship
Cody Rhodes vs. Christian for the Intercontinental Championship: Everything else on this card feels like filler. This match especially so because they really haven't done anything with the feud between these two. Both guys are good on the mic, as the Peep Show segment proved, but other than that one segment, they haven't given them much to do. Even their stare-downs have been week. I don't think they hot shot the title here, but whith so little build, who knows?
Prediction: Christian retains the Intercontinental Championship
Beth Phoenix vs. Layla for the Divas Championship: Uh...do we know anything about this feud? I mean, Beth wants the belt back and Layla wants to keep it. That's about it. I'm guessing this is filler between the WWE title and main event matches, with Layla retaining because....well, because I have no reason to pick either way and champion wins the tie.
Prediction: Layla retains the Divas Championship.
Ricardo Rodriguez vs. Santino Marella in a Tuxedo Match: I am a little disturbed with the sudden fascination of Vince McMahon to see men in their boxers. I realize he sees them in wrestling tights all the time, but usually those guys have some semblance of definition in their body. Cole doesn't, and I'm willing to bet Ricardo doesn't either, which pretty much guarantees a Santino win.
Prediction: Santino Marella strips Ric Rod.
Brodus Clay vs. David Otunga: The best thing I can say about this match is that it ought to be a squash and end quickly. Clay is being built for Big Show at some point, so he's an easy pick here.
Prediction: Brodus Clay defeats David Otunga.
