WWE WrestleMania 29 – One Shot Reactions

Ryan Kester (Twitter - @TheRyanKester):

  • The booking in the opening match impressed me. Show got to be a heel without creating a super clunky finish, and the right team went over.

  • I think it was a mistake to not have Ziggler cash in on the big stage. He could have saved the disappointing WHC segment and he looks bad after so many consistent losses.

  • Undertaker's entrance this year, complete with hands from hell grasping at him, was impressive. WrestleMania is going to be a weird show some down without such a spectacle.

  • Undertaker vs. CM Punk stole the show. I hated the story to get to the match but, when it came time for the match, all of that went away and these two men put on one hell of a show.

  • Rock vs. Cena was strong until the end. They went to the reversal well one too many times and it let the air out of the finish.

Jeff Lutz (Twitter - @JefferyDLutz):

  • I gave the show a B overall. I enjoyed the top three matches, and it didn't seem like I or anyone else was supposed to enjoy the undercard bouts. Total filler.

  • Somehow, Undertaker keeps finding himself in amazing WrestleMania matches and keeps defying his age. Punk was the workhorse in this match, but Undertaker's performance only added to its quality.

  • I don't know if the possibility of Triple H's retirement added to the buyrate, but now that he won that stipulation feels wholly unnecessary. Hunter and Brock Lesnar would have had the exact same match -- a very good one -- without it.

  • Literally no undercard wrestler comes out of WrestleMania better positioned than he went in. OK, maybe Fandango -- but his match with Chris Jericho was forgettable.

  • WrestleMania is supposed to be the start of new beginnings, but where are they? Big Show is a heel again, John Cena is WWE Champion again, and Dolph Ziggler is still holding Money in the Bank.

Jake Barnett (Twitter - @barnettjake):

  • This was an average WrestleMania. It didn't quite capture the feel of some of the really great shows. The undercard didn't really deliver any memorable experiences, and the main events peaked early.

  • Fandango and Chris Jericho were tripped up by some mis-queues late in their in what was otherwise a strong effort. The rest of the mid-card was baffling in it's banality.

  • The Undertaker and CM Punk delivered a fantastic match. I was highly critical of their build, but you can't deny greatness when you see it. A superb effort, complete with a brick shit house for a spanish announce table.

  • Brock Lesnar and Triple H beat the hell out of one another, and the crowd just couldn't wake up for it. The story told in the ring was the wrong one in my opinion, but it was well done for what it was. just couldn't have been timed worse for them in terms of crowd let down.

  • The Rock vs. John Cena was a better match in my opinion than the one they had last year. The reversal of signature moves towards the end was a bit repetitive, but the last few sequences of the match were executed perfectly. The story they told was the least interesting of the options that were available in my opinion. I don't know where they go from here with John Cena as a babyface.

Darren Gutteridge (Twitter - @Dazatheg):

  • I'll give the show a C-. Status quo maintenance seemed to be the aim for tonight, and it was mission accomplished. No turns, no huge news, no new stars made.

  • While only Henry and Ryback was poor, nothing stood out strong on the undercard, thanks to a night long theme of awkward finishes. Also, what logical reason does Ziggler have for not cashing in?

  • The shows C- rating owes a lot to Punk / Taker, who delivered a match far exceeding the matches build, and HHH / Lesnar, who overcame a few bad spots and a mid match lull to put on a great brawl.

  • And while Cena / Rock entertained after half way, the end result was as dull as it gets. The Cena's turn was right there, and would have been as monumental as Austin's turn at Mania 17, if not bigger.

  • But alas, never underestimate WWE to give the same result over and over again. Now we will get to Raw, and outside of the title changes, it will be like Mania never happened.
