Pruett's Pause: TNA Impact Wrestling - Final hype for Final Resolution, Devon wins the TV Championship, Austin Aries continues to taunt Hulk Hogan and Bully Ray, and more!
Dec 7, 2012 - 01:44 PM

By Will Pruett

- I enjoyed Bobby Roode, Kazarian, and Christopher Daniels acknowledging the miniature Fortune reunion happening in the ring. The main event six man tag consisted of five Fortune members and Jeff Hardy.

- Kazarian and Daniels continue to impress me on the mic. Hopefully after Daniels wraps things up with A.J. Styles, Bad Influence will get a chance to shine as a centerpiece tag team.

- A.J. Styles' hair is getting more and more ridiculous. Why does it look so silly?

- The Austin Aries, Booke Hogan, and Bully Ray saga continued on this show and was given quite a bit of attention. There were far too many video packages on the situation. It the centerpiece story of TNA right now, and that's doing a disservice to the rest of the roster.

- Devon winning the TV Championship seemed pretty obvious, but it is also pretty frustrating. I thought TNA had a good thing going with a method of showcasing Samoa Joe. Instead, we are back to poor Devon matches.

- What is the goal of Aces and Eights? What are they trying to do? Why are they in TNA? Are they contracted TNA talent now? How are they allowed to compete for TNA championships? Have I poked enough logic holes in this story?

- Wait a minute, Al Snow was date raped last week? Has he never actually considered calling the cops? Wrestling shows probably don't need to have characters get roofied. It really hurts the suspension of disbelief.

- Mickie James is still a sub-par promo, but a lot of the female talent in TNA is. It's rare to find a knockout that can perform well on the mic. James has a certain charisma about her, but most of that is lost in TNA.

- Velvet Sky's return might have been great for some fans, but I'm not too excited about the poor matches and pervy comments from Taz in our future. I didn't notice Sky's absence, but her return really doesn't excite me.

- TNA is promoting the world going down in flames on January 3rd (or something like that). I understand why TNA would go down the road of promoting a date (especially since WWE did so extremely successfully with The Undertaker in 2010), but after years of it, it seems trite.

- Is every tag team in TNA (aside from Bad Influence) a big man and little man combination? Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez, The Robbie's, and Matt Morgan and Joey Ryan would argue that they are.

- The Aces and Eights now take money for hits. I'm seriously confused about this entire story. Why do they have their own clubhouse and odd entryway?

- An Aces and Eights match ended when the rest of the faction ran in. Wake me up when something new happens. I try not to be too negative about TNA, but this story has been going the exact same way since September. It has been three months without any real development, aside from the disappointing reveals of Devon and DOC.

- The eight man tag at the pay-per-view might be a fun one. I trust Angle and Joe to know what they're doing. I also trust that Wes Brisco will turn. It won't be all that shocking to anyone by Kurt Angle.

- Why was Hogan so resistant to allow Austin Aries and Bully Ray to have a match? What was he trying to stop from happening?

- Jeff Hardy's internal monologue still doesn't make sense. Why can I hear his thoughts and no one else's? I'm asking a ton of "Why" questions about this episode. This is because the episode made little sense.

- Somehow TNA managed to throw the rejected X Division competitors out there without allowing them any character development. In fact, TNA didn't even allow them entrances. It's sad to see TNA refuse to make these guys anything more than just a bunch of spot-fest wrestlers.

- I liked he three-way match between Kid Kash, Zema Ion, and Kenny King. I didn't enjoy the corwd's reaction to it. Why was a fat guy jumping up and down and chanting "This is awesome" in the front row? It wasn't that awesome.

- The triple threat was fun to watch. It added athleticism that the show needed, especially after matches involving Devon and DOC happened.

- Hulk Hogan is very resistant as far as making a match between Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan. I kind of want Brooke to end up with Aries, just so she can get all Stephanie McMahon-ish on us.

- The highlight of this show was Daniels and Kazarian showing up in Zubaz and fanny packs. We all need to bring Zubaz back. Someone needs to tell my wife to get me some for Christmas.

- Styles and James Storm continue to team together without actually liking each other. I'm sure the gimmick is leading somewhere, but one would think they'd request to be put in different matches from now on.

- The heels in this match sold Jeff Hardy's Twist of Fate the way The Rock used to sell the Stone Cold Stunner. It was a little more jump than it needed, but that's okay.

- Bobby Roode swore he wasn't working with Aces and Eights and was attacked by them in August. Now, in December, he is paying them to attack Jeff Hardy. Does this mean that everyone accusing him of working with them was right?

This show's main flaw was a lack of logical motivation from many of the characters. At its core, wrestling is about characters. If audiences cannot follow and understand the motivation of those characters, why have the matches? I'm not trying to be overly negative, but this is the essence of poor storytelling. This show was built on a bad foundation and everything around it crumbled.
