WWE Breaking Point Mailbag: Mixed reviews for the finish of the C.M. Punk vs. Undertaker match
Sep 14, 2009 - 10:02 AM

DX actually approved themselves to lose? I'm going play the lottery, because that's something that's as rare as the Detroit Lions winning a game. Kane vs. Great Khali was as horrible as I thought it would be, but I actually do feel sorry for Kane because he's busted his butt for WWE and the can't come up with anything better than a Khali feud?

The only thing more pathetic than that is what they are doing to Chavo Guerrero with Hornswoggle. Who could Chavo have pissed off THAT bad?!?! The card as a whole was not so bad, and the John Cena vs. Randy Orton match was very good, in my opinion. The rest of the card was not bad, and the worth the price of admission......which is not something I've been able to say about any other WWE PPV's this year.

I thought the finish of the Undertaker vs. C.M. Punk match was brilliant. Sure, we've seen replays of the Montreal Screw Drob (thanks Randy) many times, but Punk needed a main event heat seeker (besides talking about Jeff Hardy) and this gave it to him.

I always enjoyed his "I'm straight-edge and thus better than you" promos on the indies and it made perfect sense against Jeff, but against Taker?? Not So Much. This gives the heel Punk character something new to sink his teeth into. The live crowds during the Attitude Era would have eaten it up, but calling 8-14 year-old kids out on being drug users week in and week out would have only gotten Punk so far. It would have gotten stale very quickly.

You know why the WWE won't get over Montreal? Cause the fans won't let it go. If the fans would stop chanting "you screwed Bret" at the sight of Shawn Michaels, then maybe they would try a different direction. I mean why try to come up with something new when the fans won't let the 12 year old bit die?

Thumbs down on this PPV. I am glad I only had to kick in a few dollars than pay for this. I just was not feeling this PPV. Stuff was just okay to decent. Got to get started with this: To wrestling fans in Montreal, and to WWE: Both of you: GET OVER IT. LET IT GO. I am referring to Montreal Survivor Series 1997. Good grief, do we have to see yet another version of "Montreal?" This is just ridiculous. Vince McMahon just keeps on throwing Montreal in fans' faces and the fans won't stop chanting, "You Screwed Bret." That chant, especially in 2009 (that is the year we are in), is just idiotic.

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk match was just so so for me. However, what made it worse, was Teddy Long screwing the Undertaker ala Vince doing that to Bret. Apparently, Long may be turning heel. Why else would he enforce some silly ban that a previous (and a heel) GM put in? Long, supposedly being a babyface, should have just got rid of the ban, but he enforced it, and from the way he stood there, it looks like a heel turn for Long. I am sorry, but that guy should not turn heel. I don't feel him as a heel. To remake the screwjob and throw it in the audience's faces just shows lack of respect for the audience. Of course, they won't let it go, because Vince won't.

John Cena vs. Randy Orton told a decent story. However, again, Orton, like most heels who face Cena, is made out to be weak, because Cena is booked like Superman. Here is Cena being beaten up like a pulp, and he keeps saying he won't quit, even though there were a few times that he realistically should have, but when he FINALLY gets the upper hand, Orton immediately says, "I Quit"? Just stupid to me.

Great Khali vs. Kane should not have been on the card. Horrible match.

The segment with Dolph Ziggler and Pat Patterson was way too long.

The Chris Jericho and Big Show vs. MVP and Mark Henry was okay. Nothing special. Wasn't wowed with it. The U.S. Title match was pretty cool near the end. Christian vs. William Regal was okay. Legacy vs. DX.....well, we heard the aforementioned "You Screwed Bret" chants directed at Shawn, and I made my feelings know about that earlier. I thought it was okay. Of course, they had HBK tap out in Montreal, I guess to appease the people who cannot get over it. Nothing special.

A last word on the Taker/Punk match......I just thought the Montreal Screwjob recreation was a lousy way to bring back the Undertaker in his first match back on live PPV. I did not expect him to walk out with the belt, but I didn't think they would do it like this. Of course, this is WWE, and I should have suspected they would use the Incident, but, man, this was just wrong to me. Overall, not the greatest.
