Dot Net reader offers his thoughts on Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling - "Now that I am sitting here and thinking about it the entire show is made up of Friends of Hogan"

You are encouraged to send a paragraph or two of comments on "Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling" to dotnetjason@gmail.com.

I am honestly not sure where to start when discussing the initial episode of "Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling" (from here on abbreviated to CCW for the sake of brevity). I guess the first points of discussion from me will be about the things that I found odd about the show. These things did not make me hate the show, but just left me scratching my head.

So without further adieu the first item that I would like to address is Todd Bridges hat. Was that thing glued on? Does he not realize that we know he is bald? Did I really see him take a bump and the hat stayed on? Sorry that was more distracting to me than just about anything I have witnessed in “real” professional wrestling.

Another thing that I found odd about the show was the choice of trainers. I know that Brian Knobbs and Brutus Beefcake are FOH (that is a term I coined a long time ago it stands for friend of Hogan), but seriously these guys are the trainers? What they couldn’t get The Great Khali and/or Giant Gonzalez to be the trainers? Beefcake and Knobbs are fine, but they were never known as the greatest workers in the world. Now that I am sitting here and thinking about it the entire show is made up of FOH’s, Bubba the Love Sponge, Jimmy Hart, Eric Bischoff, etc, all FOH’s.

I guess that is enough of the things that I found odd, now lets discuss some things that I found amusing. The first thing that I found amusing was the way that Danny Bonaduce moved in the ring. For some reason it looked like he was taking a thousand little steps when he ran across the ring, not sure why but it was funny to me. Something else that amused me was to see that Dennis Rodman’s clotheslines look just as bad as they did ten years ago or so when he was headlining major pay-per-views for WCW.

What did I not like about the show I am not really sure. The matches were horrible but that was to be expected. Bubba the Love Sponge was an interesting commentator, switching between calling the match and throwing out so called “insider” terms. Not great, just an interesting route to take. The judges well they didn’t add a whole lot to the show for me. For some reason I was expecting more out of Bischoff, but he was just kind of bland. So while I can’t muster up a lot of hate, I just feel a great indifference to the show. If I catch it, I catch it, if I don’t, not that big of a loss.

I guess the final issue that I would like to bring up is this. I loved Hulk Hogan as a kid. There was a point in my life that I had been to every single WWF/WWE event in my hometown. Some of the loudest most intense crowds I have been a part of were due to Hulk Hogan’s presence. I have seen a building literally sway from the sound and the crowd pounding the ground in reaction to Hogan.

So I guess what I am saying is that it is sad to see him clutching on to the CCW championship belt like it holds the cure for his baldness, it kind of saddens me. I know that Hogan is the Babe Ruth of wrestling, but it is time for him to move out of the sphere of wrestling. He has made a lot of money, he isn’t getting any younger, it is time for him to kick back and enjoy life.
