More HOF debate, Sting, entrance music
Feb 21, 2008 - 12:23 PM

I certainly don’t believe death should equate to an automatic entrance into the Hall of Fame, as I agree with the sentiment that it only diminishes the accomplishments of those who earned their spots in the typical way. Plus, it would also diminish the accomplishments of the deceased wrestlers themselves.

I am of the belief that even if Owen Hart was alive today, he would still be Hall of Fame bound. He’s a multiple time Intercontinental, tag team, and European champion, and a King of The Ring winner. He was an integral part of one of the biggest factions in wrestling history. He also took part in some of the WWE’s biggest angles.

Let’s also not forget about those two Slammy Awards he earned. This is turning into a love letter to Owen, but what I mean is the sheer notion that he earned his ticket in one night in 1999 in Kansas City makes my stomach turn. It’s unfortunate that night has become his legacy.  He was an exceptional performer and entertainer, and had all those intangible qualities we talk about in spades.

Powell replies: I would hope that people would recognize that a person such as Owen earns his spot based on his accomplishments, but I certainly understand your argument.

Where is Sting? I read that he's signed through 2008 by TNA, but why is he gone?

Chad Nguyen

Powell replies: He’s working a lighter schedule this year and I assume that TNA is saving him for special appearances. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return at Lockdown in the War Games-style main event match, but that’s just speculation. Sting doesn’t want to work a full-time schedule and I think it’s wise of TNA to limit his appearances this year so that they mean something.

A few days ago you published a letter from Daniel Banks, who asked if wrestlers have a say in their entrance themes. I remember a commentary on Lance Storm’s StormWrestling.com website. I believe he answered a similar question on an older version of his website. If I recall, he said that most of the big name stars have a major say in themes, but the lesser known names do not. In fact most of the undercard wrestlers are never told of a change and sometimes they will walk out to a theme they haven't heard before. Just wanted to share a little more into that response.

Powell replies: That meshes with what I wrote in response to Daniel’s question. I did a search for Storm’s response on that subject, but the link is dead. As you noted, I believe he’s changed websites since then.
