Reader questions and editor responses regarding Shane McMahon, Triple H, John Cena, Jeff Hardy, Mr. Kennedy
Jul 3, 2008 - 02:51 PM

Have a question you want answered? Send them to dotnetjason@gmail.com.

Do you feel Shane McMahon will return for a major heel run anytime soon? It seems with the Vince accident storyline that they could use him for a huge heel run whether it be as the jealous power hungry heir tired of waiting for more power, or simply as a guy with an "entitlement" complex. Both of which he plays very well.

Mike Witt

Powell replies: I'm still holding out hope that they'll push Shane as a babyface commissioner type. The way he served as the promoter for the Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather match was a refreshing change from the tired heel owner/general manager gimmick we've been seeing in WWE for so many years.

To answer your question, though, I know that one of the ideas for the exploding limo gimmick was for Shane to have a babyface run against his father and his conspirator. Obviously, that never came to fruition. I'm sure Shane will be a suspect in the latest whodunnit and they could head in the direction you mentioned, but I haven't heard much about the whodunnit plans this time around. I'm sure they'll keep that one quiet, assuming they've even finalized how the angle will play out.

With all the build up to Triple H vs. John Cena being centered on the fact that Hunter has never beaten Cena, would it have made more sense to have Cena beat Hunter again. Both guys have one win each now, so one more match to decide who is better will be all WWE can get out of this. Had Cena won, they could be a go to match any time WWE needed to sell some PPV's. If Cena would have won, and taken the title to Raw, the two could have stayed apart a while and Triple H not beating Cena could have "festered," and WWE could bring them back together later for more money matches.

Powell replies: I can't disagree with the scenario you presented. It would have cool if there was a major player in WWE that Hunter had yet to defeat in a singles match. However, I think they were more concerned with keeping the title on Hunter and moving him to the Smackdown side for his star power. WWE officials feel he'll be a fresh champion on Smackdown, whereas Edge has had the belt on and off for a while now. Meanwhile, Cena doesn't need the title. In fact, another title run at this point could cool him off considerably because Raw viewers would see it as a repeat. Again, I like the scenario you presented with Cena being up 2-0, but I can also see the logic in how WWE chose to move

Do you think that part of the reason Jeff Hardy was drafted to Smackdown was so that he can travel with Shannon Moore and when he returns Gregory Helms in a hope that it will stop him getting a third strike?

John Daniels

Powell replies: I don't get the sense that they are overly concerned about Jeff in the sense that they have someone shadowing him or anything like that. They believe his second strike was the result of poor decision. If they thought he was having major addiction problems, they would have asked him to go to treatment. They tried that approach the first time and he balked so they released him.

Having friends and family (Matt Hardy will be traveling with the Smackdown/ECW crew) on the road is a nice perk, but lead writer Michael Hayes has always been a fan of Hardy's work and I expect him to get a big push on the Smackdown side. I think this move was a creative decision more than anything.

Hey, I was wondering how it was possible that most of the wrestlers were not aware of switching brands, but some of them acted according to what storyline they may enter into, such as Kennedy coming out and challenging Edge. It just seems weird that they would not be informed of their switch, but would be given free reign to react however they want.

Dewey West

Powell replies: They may have informed Kennedy right before he walked out. I can tell you that Triple H was the only wrestler who knew where he was going late in the afternoon on draft Monday.
