I asked Dot Net readers who live outside the United States to share their thoughts on the patriotism theme of Monday's Raw during my live coverage report. The feedback was overwhelmingly in favor of the patriotism theme, and the following is a sampling of the emails I received.

I didn't mind the patriotism celebration. I think it's fair that America celebrate the death of one of the most evil men of history. From a globalist point of view, it would have been nice for the Rock to point out that tens of millions of fans worldwide support the WWE, identify in many ways with the American way of life, that far more fans in Muslim countries like Pakistan (yes, Pakistan!) and Indonesia have chanted the Rock's name, than will ever give lip service to a loser like Osama.  I know many school friends who grew up disliking American government, who didn't really understand American policy but idolized Steve Austin and the great one.

I don't known if Americans realize how truly globally admired and influential some of their cultural products are, how much that rankles with men like Osama, and how important that is in the long run for America in winning hearts and minds the world over. But, sigh, I guess it would have been too much to hope for a global perspective amidst the celebration.

I'd also add, that WWE fans worldwide represent people who're generally willing to embrace stars and glamour outide of our own cultural norms, who are receptive to American ideas and performance. I do wish the WWE would make more statements addressing us in the broader audience outside america sometimes, but they have a lot of goodwill abroad.

Someone from Australia, who has always admired the American's patriotism towards all things country, I just thought I'd share my thoughts. Australia itself has its own form of patriotism, all be it, somewhat oddball. We have a BBQ instead of saluting the flag. We sing out teams football song loud, but mumble the national anthem...you see where I am going with this.
 
I always find the WWE's stuff for the soldiers classy, and they should be proud of, however, watching (don't ask how) the live coverage today of Raw...something, just felt...I dunno...it felt a little bit...tacked on....I don't wanna use the term cheesy, but it felt a bit too sugary. I wouldn't have minded a video of Vince saying something, or even showing John Cena doing his thing last night, but other then that, I just feel it was a bit much. Almost as if the WWE were trying to pat themselves on the back... I know that probably sound disrespectful, but, I just wanted you to know how someone outside of the states genuinely felt.

I actually found that opening very entertaining, but you’re right I think that over patriotism make me think that WWE only thinks about their U.S. viewers. Celebrating about a death is wrong, even if the one who’s dead is a piece of **** like Osama was. It was a victory for US, but besides that over-patriotism, I really enjoyed The Rock’s promo and even I don’t like reggaeton, I dig that Pitbull’s appearance. Peace!

As a Canadian, I'm loving the pro USA celebration tonight. After all of these years, I'm glad bin Laden is dead. Your country deserves a moment to celebrate after the hell he put you through.
