Readers react to Mike Adamle's debut as the ECW play-by-play announcer

I haven't seen a full ECW show in months, but hearing how bad Mike Adamle was in his debut actually makes me wish I had seen last night's episode. I may tune in next week, if he is still commentating, just to see if he is as bad the second time around. It's like those early in the season episodes of American Idol. You tune in to see the crazies and horrible singers. What should this tell WWE that the first interest I've had in months in a show is for all the wrong reasons?

I know you're going to put Mike Adamle on the 'Miss' section of your "Hitlist," but please reconsider. I haven't laughed this hard in eons! That has to count for something!

Powell replies: I don't write ECW Hitlists. If I did, I'd permanently rename the "Misses" section after Mike Adamle.

You aren't the only one who thought of Brick Tamland in case you were wondering. I had done the Brick quote, just with Mike Adamle's name replacing it on a couple message boards I frequent. So I got a pretty good chuckle, when I went on your site and saw you had said pretty much the same thing, glad I'm not the only one who saw the parallel. That was scary bad.

Maybe they put Mike Adamle on ECW to make the Smackdown announcing team look better. Either that or it's a very late April Fools joke. As bad as he's been on the stick since arriving in the WWE, there is nothing in the realm of possibility that would make you believe Adamle would be any good, let alone an improvement over Joey Styles.

My question is about new ECW commentator Mike Adamle. It is pure irony that the once terrible commentator 'The Miz' is now the one having his own name murdered by an even worse announcer, Adamle?

Is this guy a McMahon somehow or a friend of the family? Does he have a good history with the company for them to give him this role? Could you also give some background on how this change came about, and why they chose Adamle over, say, an ECW original?

My husband and I were watching Adamle on ECW last night (we only watch for Colin Delaney, but more on that another day) and even though we aren't really hardcore fans or anything, it was quite obvious that this guy was a fish out of water. Did I actually hear him say, "Brothers of Construction" after calling "Mike the Miz" and Morrison the "WW Tag Team Champions?" Wow, just wow.

Then again, this may be a carrot to get people to tune in. I found it really funny that they have a screwup wrestler and a screwup announcer now. Perhaps the names he invents for wrestlers and personalities will stick. Will "The Tazz" be a new catchphrase like "The Donald?" If they go this route, here's hoping they have McMahon admonish him on the air to generate some sympathy, and then he can continue to screw up worse and have his own storyline.
