-WWE held its 800th episode back on September 22. They made a big fuss over the milestone then and here they are a little over a month later celebrating the 800th episode again. Am I missing something? It's a big accomplishment and it warrants celebration, but twice?
I'm throwing myself another birthday party. I celebrated my birthday back in August, but if WWE can celebrate its 800 episodes twice, then there's no reason I can't celebrate my birthday twice in the same year. You're all invited and cool gifts are required.
-It will be interesting to see whether Vince Russo and the other TNA writers learned anything from the NWO. The Main Event Mafia started as a faction of four wrestlers, but the plan is to add at least one other wrestler to the MEM mix.
The NWO faction was at its best in the early days when it was a handful of guys. The group lost its luster when they started handing out NWO t-shirts like the street walkers pass out pornography pamphlets on the Vegas strip. The group eventually had so many members that it split the roster into WCW or NWO.
Here's hoping TNA doesn't make that mistake with the MEM faction. There should be no more than five members in the group, and TNA should not turn this in to an all encompassing feud in which everyone on the roster is on one side or the other. It's important to keep other feuds and storylines going so that TNA doesn't place all of its proverbial eggs into one basket.
-With all the speculation about Ring of Honor's financial problems, one can only hope that WWE officials have taken notice. Jim Ross mentioned the idea of WWE subsidizing the promotion during one of his recent blogs, and I'd love to see that happen.
In a perfect world, the promotion could make it work financially on its own. However, I'd rather see a WWE subsidized Ring of Honor than no Ring of Honor. This promotion has served as a learning ground for performers such as Samoa Joe, C.M. Punk, Evan Bourne, and many others. I'd hate to see WWE buy the promotion and take it over, but it's in their best interest to keep the promotion around to serve as a feeder group much like ECW was under Paul Heyman.
-The second week of Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling was better than the premier episode. They spent more time with the celebrities and showed some of the drama that occurred outside the ring. They really need to establish a heel cast member to root against, and that shouldn't be too hard given that Danny Bonaduce and Dustin Diamond have both played that role on other reality shows.
-I caught the first 20 minutes of Chris Jericho's new reality show on the Fuse network. Well, actually, I watched the first 20 minutes on the Fuse website yesterday. The production looks slicker than the Hogan show, but the overall concept didn't do much for me.
Basically, it's a bunch of troubled female singers getting catty while trying to win a record contract. Jericho was solid as the host even though he's not the focus of the show. I'll give it another chance, but the fact that the show couldn't keep my interest for more than 20 minutes isn't a good sign. Then again, I probably don't qualify as a member of their target demographic.
