New Dot Net Audio feature, still waiting for the definitive book on the AWA, lack of hype for TNA Bound For Glory pay-per-view
By Jason Powell Oct 8, 2008 - 01:33 PM

Wednesday, October 8 – 1:33 P.M. (CT)

-Dot Net Members can look forward to the debut of the new "Dot Net Weekly" radio show that Rich Twilling and I will be recording later today. The plan is to record the show on Wednesdays or Thursday depending on our schedule. This week's show will focus on the current state of pro wrestling.

We're going to break down WWE by brand and we'll also discuss TNA and Ring of Honor. In future weeks, we'll run through the current wrestling events and we'll work in a few theme shows. If you want to sign up before the debut edition goes online, you can become a member for only $5 per month by visiting the Dot Net Members' Signup Page.

-I'm jealous of fans who grew up on Stampede Wrestling. I've been waiting for a wrestler who worked for the AWA during the era I grew up watching to write a book with as many details on that period as Bret Hart had in his book regarding his father's promotion.

There have been several wrestlers who wrote about their AWA experiences in their books. Bobby Heenan told some fun stories in his autobiography, but there hasn't been a definitive book written about the AWA. The WWE documentary was entertaining, but I'd pay good money to for a book written by a wrestler who is as passionate about the AWA as Hart is about Stampede Wrestling.

Of course, the book would have to be written by someone who wouldn't be afraid to pull punches. Although he wasn't there for the dying days of the promotion, I think Jim Brunzell would be a great candidate for such a project since he was with the promotion for so many years. I know the book wouldn't have the widespread appeal that the WWE releases have, but it could be a regional hit, much like Lou Nanne's recent book on the North Stars franchise has been so successful in my home market.

-I'm still searching for regular TNA and Florida Championship Wrestling wrestling correspondents. If you attend either promotion's shows on a regular basis, contact me at dotnetjason@gmail.com.

-For those who missed it, WWE Smackdown drew a 1.9 final rating for the debut on MyNetwork TV. I mistakenly listed the fast network number in Tuesday's Dot Net Daily, which scored me an email from a frustrated fan who accused me of having a WWE bias and misleading readers so that I could score exclusive interviews with WWE performers. Um, sure.

-There's not much buzz over TNA's Bound For Glory pay-per-view. The Fanfest the company is holding on Saturday looks like it will be a fun event, but the only advertising I've seen for the show was immediately following the WWE No Mercy pay-per-view on Sunday on the In Demand feed.

The company may not have a huge advertising budget, but you'd think TNA would be going out of their way to book their talent on regular radio and internet wrestling radio shows to stir up interest in their marquee pay-per-view event. For a company that is owned by someone with a marketing background, you'd think they would be doing more to spread the word about their product.
