Gail Kim's departure from TNA, the contract of a major player in TNA expires shortly, BBQ Bonanza, fantasy football
Aug 22, 2008 - 11:53 AM

Friday, AUGUST 22 - 11:53 A.M.

-It's easy to criticize TNA for letting Gail Kim leave the company, but I'm holding back until we find out what she was asking for. She contributed greatly to the Knockouts division and it's definitely a loss for TNA, but for all we know she had her heart set on returning to WWE or her contract demands were too significant.

It is alarming that TNA seems to be set on re-signing Sting and Team 3D, yet Kim and Tomko have both left the company. The company is currently building up Sting and Jeff Jarrett as the biggest stars in the company via the baseball bats and guitars.

There has to be a youth movement at some point in TNA. Some of the veterans contribute more than others, but eventually company officials must realize that it's not a good idea to continue to showcase leftover stars from the dying days of WCW at the expense of some of the younger wrestlers. TNA officials always claim that the aging veterans are there to put over the young guys, but it sure looks like the older guys are dominating the main event picture.

-I've heard from multiple sources that Kevin Nash's contract with TNA is set to expire in October. Oh, and Nash is scheduled to face Samoa Joe at the pay-per-view that month. Anyone else spotting the red flags a mile away?

-I had a great time discussing the latest happenings in pro wrestling with Brian Fritz of Between The Ropes. Fritz is a great guy and he's friends with just about everyone in the wrestling media. I always enjoy talking wrestling with him on and off the air. You can check out my latest appearance by visiting BetweenTheRopes.com.

-I hit the BBQ bonanza this week. I hosted a SummerSlam party for my usual crew of pay-per-view attendees and we decided to turn it into a BBQ. The gang had never tried Jim Ross's brand before, so we all pitched in and ordered a bottle of the original and a bottle of the chipotle sauce.

Being the reigning king of procrastination, I waited until the Sunday night before the show to place my order, not knowing if I was going to let my friends down. Fortunately, the order was delivered on Wednesday afternoon. Great turnaround time and good reviews across the board for the sauce. I think the only complaint was that the chipotle sauce didn't pack as much of a kick as we thought it would.

The next day, I received a package in the mail from Dot Net reader Zachary Heath, who sent me two more bottles of J.R.'s Bar-BQ Sauce. I've already thanked Zachary via email, but I want to thank him here again publicly. His kind gesture drew rave reviews from my girlfriend, who was bummed out that we used most of the sauce we ordered at the pay-per-view party.

We ordered JR's sauce for the novelty more than anything the first time around, but I'm officially hooked on the original sauce. You can try it for yourself by visiting JRsBarBQ.com

-With fall right around the corner, the fantasy football itch has kicked in. As most of you know, I worked at Fanball for four years before I launched Dot Net back in February, and I was thinking a couple weeks back about how much I missed writing about fantasy football.

A day later, I was contacted by UGO.com about writing two weekly fantasy football articles. The deadlines fit perfectly with my Dot Net schedule and will give me an outlet to write about one of my other passions. I started writing some pre-draft articles for them last week, and my sleepers and bust articles will be posted later today. During the season, I'll be writing weekly "Bench" and "Start" articles for what we're calling UGO Fantasy Football Fridays. You can find the articles in the sports section at UGO.com.

-By the way, there is a fantasy sports section in the Dot Net Members' forum, and my goody buddy, pay-per-view party regular, and FantasyFootballChamps.com contributor Jonathan LoPuch has been known to drop by and answer a few questions.
