What's next for Edge? Who's next in line to face Triple H? How will C.M. Punk be treated in his hometown? Are MVP and Shelton Benjamin aligned or future opponents in a three-way program with Jeff Hardy?
By Jason Powell Aug 18, 2008 - 02:52 PM

Monday, AUGUST 18 - 2:52 P.M.

-It should be a very interesting week in WWE television. Raw takes place in Chicago tonight, meaning it will be a homecoming for C.M. Punk as the World Hvt. Champion. WWE officials have this strange fetish for making their talent look bad in their home market and I hope they don't make that mistake with Punk. I'm fine if they set up his next program tonight, but they should capitalize on the big ovation he's likely to get from him hometown fans by doing something that makes him look like a true star.

-I'm curious to see where they go with Edge now that he's been sent to hell. Does this mean the Rated R Superstar (who appears on a PG show) will be taking time off? I sure hope not. He's at the peak of his run as a heel and this is not the time to send him home unless he needs time off due to injury or was promised a break from the road.

I'm also looking forward to seeing what the title matches will be at the Unforgiven pay-per-view. It looks like WWE will be going with Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels after their red hot angle on Sunday night, so does that mean they'll deliver another round of uninspired title matches with Punk and Triple H?

I don't know how they can't give Batista the next shot at Punk given that he just pinned John Cena clean at Smackdown, but I suppose anything is possible with the Mike Adamle character serving as the general manager.

As for Hunter, I mentioned last night in the WWE SummerSlam audio recap I conducted with Newsday.com blogger Alfonso Castillo that this might be a good spot for Big Show to slip into the picture. I don't think this was the original plan given that Show had just started a program with Umaga before the Samoan Bulldozer suffered a knee injury that will sideline him up to six months, so it's possible they have something else in mind. Either way, I hope the Smackdown creative team does something to get Big Show back on track because he's been wasted since his highly entertaining match with Floyd Mayweather at WrestleMania 24.

-I'm also curious to see where the storyline with Jeff Hardy, MVP, and Shelton Benjamin is headed. Have they decided to turn this into a three-way program now that Shelton is left without an opponent due to Mr. Kennedy's injury? Is there some type of alliance between Shelton and MVP? I guess that would explain why they have taken turns interfering in their respective singles matches against Hardy in recent weeks.

-Finally, what's next for Cena now that he lost his match to Batista? He's already had a run with JBL and there don't appear to be any obvious programs for Cena to move into. Was the plan for Randy Orton to interfere in the match to set up a program with him against either Cena or Batista? Will Orton prove the conspiracy theorists right by attacking someone on tonight's show and reveal that his motorcycle accident was a work all along?

-Most of these questions should be answered on Raw and Smackdown. As I mentioned earlier, this should be a very interesting week of WWE television.
