McMahon's Million Dollar Giveaway Day is here, plus thoughts on TNA and ROH
Jun 9, 2008 - 12:59 PM |
Monday, JUNE 9 - 12:59 P.M.
-Am I the only person worried that Vince McMahon's million dollar giveaway will disrupt the flow of the show? If my understanding of the rules is correct, there will be eight winners tonight. Does that mean Vince will be calling eight different people throughout the show? Let's just hope they don't scale back on the in-ring action to fit these segments into the show. It's been bad enough watching two- and three-minute matches over the last few weeks.
-In case you're wondering, yes, I will post the contest code on Dot Net once it is announced tonight. In exchange, you have to promise to say something good about Prowrestling.net if Vince calls you.
-If there's one good thing about the giveaway tonight it's that you can break out your best Vince McMahon impersonation and call one of your friends in hopes of convincing him that he's a big winner. Just remember to block your number so that your name doesn't pop up on caller ID. Oh, and use the word "pal" a lot.
-It's hard to get excited about Raw when WWE has yet to announce a match for the show. Vince is obviously excited about this contest and you'd think they'd go out of their way to stir up as much interest as possible. With the draft approaching, you'd think they could afford to give away a big match involving someone who will be switching brands later this month. Of course, the problem is that they probably don't have anything set stone regarding the draft because they've been booking Raw on the fly lately.
-I'm still waiting for that "blockbuster announcement" WWE promised for last Tuesday's press conference. They even went so far as to note in their press release "It's not just the obvious," regarding the Million Dollar Giveaway. Did I miss something?
-Was anyone else surprised by the lack of nostalgia during Sunday's TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view? This was their anniversary event, yet the only older footage we saw was tied into the King of the Mountain match. This would have been a good spot for Dixie Carter to appear on camera and thank the fans either live in the ring or in a pre-taped segment.
-For those keeping score at home, Nigel McGuinness vs. Austin Aries from the "Rising Above" pay-per-view gets my vote for match of the year. Granted, the match took place on December 29, but no one outside of New York saw the match until it debuted on pay-per-view in March.
