-An unnamed former colleague of Mick Foley told Mike Mooneyham of Charleston.net. that Foley is making a mistake by joining TNA. "He just (messed) himself up by doing that," said the former colleague. "It's the kiss of death. He'll never go the (WWE) Hall of Fame doing that, and may have jeopardized his status with the company."
I couldn't disagree more with Foley's former colleague. Foley made a business decision. Vince McMahon may not be happy about it, but there's no way this will eliminate Foley from WWE Hall of Fame consideration. OK, it might delay his entry, but he'll get in sooner or later.
How many wrestlers left WWE for World Championship Wrestling during the Monday Night War era? How many of those wrestlers were rehired? Hulk Hogan was the top dog for the rival that came the closest to putting WWE out of the business, and he's in the WWE Hall of Fame.
If there's one thing we know about Vince McMahon it's that he'll put personal grudges aside for the sake of making money unless it involves Randy Savage. And whatever issue there is between Vince and Savage is clearly more personal than Savage jumping to a rival promotion.
No matter how upset Vince is with Foley for leaving, there will eventually come a time when he will determine that inducting Mick into the Hall of Fame is good for business. There will come a time when WWE holds WrestleMania weekend in a city where Foley is a big draw, and he will get his just due.
Better yet, I'd like to think that Vince cares about the integrity of the Hall of Fame to some degree. He put aside his differences with Bret Hart and the company gave him a classy induction ceremony. Bruno Sammartino has badmouthed WWE and McMahon for over two decades, but he has still tried unsuccessfully to convince Sammartino to accept the induction.
Mark my words, Foley will be a WWE Hall of Famer someday. There's not even a doubt in my mind.
-Three fantasy football drafts down and one to go. My main league held its 13th annual draft on Saturday night and there were as many beers, chips, and sub sandwiches consumed as there were players drafted. Next to Christmas, draft day in my main league might be my favorite day of the year.
Just a reminder that I'll be writing weekly "Bench" and "Start" articles for UGO.com every week beginning this Thursday. You can check out the last draft related article I wrote for them earlier this week by clicking here.
