WWE Raw Hitlist: John Cena shines, DX squabbling, Legacy tension, The Miz and MVP, final hype for Sunday's WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view
Jan 26, 2010 - 11:30 AM

WWE Raw Hits

John Cena vs. Sheamus: I love the way the announcers portrayed Sheamus as being the guy who has Cena's number. Jerry Lawler openly questioning whether Sheamus was the opponent that Cena could not beat went a long way. Good action between them. I also enjoyed watching Cena set up his comeback, only to have Sheamus shut him down a couple times. The finish with Randy Orton interfering set up the WWE Championship match for the Royal Rumble nicely, and the actual Rumble match was sold to Cena fans when he was left standing strong at the end of the show.

Vince McMahon and John Cena: Great use of the Cena character. I love the way the lightbulb went off with Cena's character in that he questioned how Vince will treat him when he's no longer making money for the company. I wonder if Cena ever has those thoughts legitimately. Either way, Cena had a strong night, and WWE has done a great job of stretching out the Bret Hart storyline by involving Cena and Taker over the last two weeks. Best of all, they didn't have Bret overshadow the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

DX squabbling: They've done a great job of making Shawn Michaels's quest to face Undertaker personal to him. Furthermore, the bickering between Hunter and Shawn has also made the Royal Rumble match seem important with Hunter saying that he won't give up his WrestleMania dream even for best friend Shawn. Whether we get a DX breakup on Sunday or not, Hunter and Shawn have done a great job of selling the Rumble match.

Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase tension: More tension between the Legacy members heading into the Rumble match. My guess is that these two will draw the first and second spots in the Rumble match.

The Miz: The rising star of WWE. His mic work is off the charts strong and he just needs a couple of credibility boosting wins to fit into the main event picture. I didn't have a problem with his loss to Kofi Kingston. Sure, it would have been nice to see Miz get the win, but they are also trying to push Kingston, and they gave Miz an excuse by having MVP's music distract him.

Dule Hill: I've only watched a couple episodes of "Psych," so I didn't know what to expect from Hill as a guest host. He was fun. There was nothing particularly memorable about his performance, but he seemed to be having fun and WWE didn't make the mistake of making it seem like everyone should know who he is. The skit with Alicia Fox was silly, but we've seen much worse from past guest hosts.

WWE Raw Misses

Big Show squashes MVP: I get the idea of making Big Show look dominant heading into the Rumble, but did it need to come at the expense of the No. 1 contender to the U.S. Title? It's really hard to take the title seriously when a guy squashes the No. 1 contender and just moves on to other things. That said, I'm still enjoying the verbal exchanges between MVP and The Miz. I don't know when we'll get the U.S. Title match between these two, but WWE has done a great job of building up to it with the exception of squashing MVP in this match.

Divas Title Tournament: The women just aren't connecting with the live crowds. No one cares about the Divas Title, let alone the tournament to crown the new champion. It might be as simple as showcasing two of the best workers and given them a good 10 minutes to tell a story in the ring rather than featuring throwaway two minute matches every week.
