TNA Impact Hits
Sting and Kevin Nash vs. Team 3D: I hated the cheap finish of the match and I didn't think TNA set the big match tone that they could have. Come to think of it, I wasn't even crazy about the match. That being said, I liked the show-ending brawl. TNA did a nice job of building up to the Lethal Lockdown match during their three-day taping series over WrestleMania weekend.
Scott Steiner and Petey Williams vs. Motor City Machine Guns: A really nice television match. I think the wrong team won, which is definitely a trend in Machine Guns matches, but at least Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley got their offense in. The Guns and Petey worked very well together and this match proves how strong Guns matches can be if they get enough time and are given at least one opponent who works their style. Can we please start the LAX vs. Machine Guns feud already?
Roxxi Laveaux vs. Angelina Love: I enjoyed this match. It wasn't on the same level as the recent work of Awesome Kong, Gail Kim, and ODB, nor was it meant to be. This was just a solid television match between two women who haven't been showcased by TNA in recent weeks. I know they want characters, but I really hope they'll continue to tweak Roxxi's look. It just seems too over the top and I don't think fans identify with it.
Consequences Creed vs. Jimmy Rave: I can't stand the Rock-n-Rave Infection gimmick, but Rave has always been a good in-ring performer. He did a nice job in this match with Creed, who was said to be very nervous heading into this match following his long layoff from TNA. Creed showed some flash and displayed some innovative offense in what was billed as his first singles match in TNA.
Kip James claims he's going to win a singles World Title: I laughed harder at that comment than I have at all the Eric Young, Black Machismo, Shark Boy, and Curry Man skits combined.
TNA Impact Misses
Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe hype: Very disappointing. I know they're going for the MMA feel and while it's true that many MMA fighters shake hands before their fights, some of the most anticipated fights are between guys who at least act like they can't stand one another. They could have done everything they did only placed security between them to give the impression that it was a potentially volatile situation. This should have been built up as a grudge match given everything these two have been through together.
If you want to compare it to MMA matches, Angle vs. Joe should have been promoted more like Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock than Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin. I like the idea of Angle wearing a suit and playing the professional champion role, but I thought this was a good opportunity to make Joe out to be a representative of the average guy by wearing regular clothes to the ring.
Scott Steiner shaves Petey's head: It was bad enough when Steiner was hazing Petey with the silly initiation stunts in the most homoerotic angle in TNA history. It somehow took a turn for the worse last night when Steiner shaved Petey's head as the final initiation. If a guy is willing to shave his head, then why not hold a hair vs. hair match? Let me see if I have this straight. Williams thinks he's Little Petey Pump. Jay Lethal thinks he's the Macho Man. Eric Young thinks he's a superhero. Shark Boy thinks he's Stone Cold. Payton Banks thinks she's Traci Brooks (or at least dresses like her).
