TNA Impact Hits

TNA Challenge Series: I'm all for an annual Thanksgiving tournament, but this felt thrown together. This is the type of thing you hype at least two weeks out. Perhaps bring in Dixie Carter for an in-ring drawing of the names and tournament brackets a couple weeks in advance to get people excited about the tournament. More importantly, let the wrestlers and announcers sell the tournament for a couple weeks and make it seem like a prestigious event.

I can't stand the gimmick of giving wrestlers a shot at the various titles in the company. The ultimate prize is the TNA Title. There was some logic in Robert Roode going after the tag titles, but I'd rather see them focus on the TNA Title, which would also give the champion a chance to put over the tournament. It would also be nice if someone would bother to tell us when the tournament winner will get his title shot. Is it at the pay-per-view? Next week on television? At a house show? Oh, I almost forgot, the reason I gave the tournament a hit is because it featured some quality matches and for once the Thanksgiving show come across like Hee Haw with someone being stuffed in a turkey suit.

Kurt Angle: He carried the tournament by having good matches with D'Angelo Dinero and Robert Roode, and progressed his feud with Desmond Wolfe. Angle carried the tournament and made Dinero and Roode look great before bowing out via countout.

Robert Roode: Roode's in-ring work was a hit. I don't think he really gained much momentum in the tournament, though. He got a fluky win over Angle and then lost clean to Lashley. Yet as much as I like the Beer Money duo, it was fun to watch Roode work singles again.

Mick Foley: His paranoia over Hulk Hogan joining the company has been entertaining and creates intrigue over who will be coming in with him. I assume this means we'll see some type of Hogan vs. Foley feud either in the ring or simply on the mic if Hogan determines he can't wrestle.

Scott Steiner: Another fun performance from Steiner on the mic. He's not getting a bunch of camera time right now, but he's making the most of what they give him.

TNA Impact Misses

A.J. Styles and Daniels: Who are the stars in TNA? We know Hulk Hogan is because there are several video packages per show that feature Hogan talking about everything he's bringing to the table. We know Dixie Carter is because they show her in the Hogan clips and tell us all to check out her Twitter page. No one else really stands out from week to week because the booking doesn't showcase anyone in particular. They're so busy cramming everyone into the scripts that the TNA Champion and his pay-per-view challenger aren't getting enough camera time. TNA should make a point of coming up with creative ways to remind us every 20 minutes that Styles is the champion and therefore the best wrestler in the company.

Global Championship: The belt can't be defended on American soil or against American wrestlers. Yawn. If the goal is to make people angry to the point that they want to see Eric Young defend the title, it's failing miserably. No one cares about this title. People didn't care when it was the Legends Championship, and they don't care now that it's the Global Title.
