WWE Raw Hits
Undertaker attacks John Cena: I'm giving this a hit even though I don't understand why this took place on the go-home edition of Raw heading into Survivor Series. I assume they are planting the seeds for a WrestleMania match, but shouldn't their first concern have been building up Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view in some way? Maybe there will be some type of followup on Sunday that will justify the angle taking place on this show. Either way, it was a memorable moment between the two World Champions.
Undertaker and John Cena vs. Triple H and Shawn Michaels vs. Big Show and Chris Jericho: Yes, I am bothered by the fact that they did nothing in this match to sell Sunday's pay-per-view, but the match still featured some fun showdown moments with some of WWE's top stars. A fun match that was filled with star power.
Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton brawl: A wild brawl that made for fun television and actually built up one of the Survivor Series matches. They're doing a great job of pushing Kofi and I'm looking forward to the eventual singles match between these two. It looks like creative is serious about pushing Kofi as a top wrestler and it will be fun to see how the next chapter of their feud plays out on Sunday.
The Miz vs. MVP: Another nice win for Miz. Beating another mid-card performer won't allow him to break through into the main event picture, but it's always nice to see a heel wrestler go over clean. WWE has been doing a much better job in that area lately.
Roddy Piper and Vince McMahon: This was not a shining moment for Piper, who was in train wreck mode on the mic. It was odd listening to him bring up Vince firing him over the "Real Sports" appearance and then bring up dead wrestlers. And what the hell was up with the "She Bops" rant? Nevertheless, it was a rare appearance for the Mr. McMahon character and their verbal exchange was mean spirited and totally entertaining.
Sheamus: Another vicious attack. The rest of the locker room looked like pussies for not accepting his challenge. This could have been explained away by having the announcers claim that the locker rooms aren't near the entrance, so wrestlers didn't have time to come out. That said, I like the way they're pushing Sheamus as a remorseless badass. They're off to a great start with his push. Here's hoping they don't come up with the usual WWE reasons for pulling back on the push.
Hunter hits the Pedigree on Hornswoggle: It was bizarre watching the top babyface duo take out the kiddy hero, yet it was still the type of moment that Horny haters have been waiting for. I'm giving it a hint based on the hope that it will lead to the Hornswoggle character taking a needed break away from television.
WWE Raw Misses
Survivor Series hype: This was an entertaining show with some newsworthy moments. However, WWE spent more time romanticizing over Madison Square Garden than hyping the pay-per-view. Undertaker hitting the Tombstone on John Cena was a cool moment, but did it make anyone want to order the Survivor Series? Was anything other than the Kofi and Randy brawl designed to sell the pay-per-view?
Triple H and Shawn Michaels: The live crowd gave these two one of the biggest pops of the night during their ring entrance. There's no denying that these two are over in a big way, but they did nothing this month to make me want to see them challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship on Sunday. Everything was a big joke. They never expressed a strong desire to beat Cena or to capture the title, nor did they tease any type of tension between them. This Triple Threat should have been the most compelling match on the Survivor Series show, but DX was too busy clowning around to sell pay-per-views.
Melina vs. Alicia Fox: They actually advertised this match in advance and then went through the trouble of bringing out the other Divas for the lumberjill match only to have them stand there and watch the 90-second match. Then they followed up with the predictable, throwaway brawl that halfheartedly hyped their match for Sunday's show. Clearly, creative was just going through the motions on this one.
