WWE Raw Hitlist: Randy Orton hits the RKO on Dusty Rhodes, Chris Jericho vs. MVP, Diva battle royal, Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger vs. Carlito, Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero (again)
By Jason Powell Sep 1, 2009 - 11:20 AM

WWE Raw Hits:

Dusty Rhodes: The Dream was very good in his guest host role and I liked the twist at the end of the show with him screwing John Cena. The attack by Orton was fun because no one saw it coming. It was logical enough for me in the sense that Orton went into business for himself by attacking Dusty, and then backed down the intimidated Cody, who blindly believes Orton is his ticket to success.

Chris Jericho vs. MVP: A solid match, but not the breakthrough performance that MVP desperately needs at this point. This seemed like a logical spot to put MVP over because he desperately needs to defeat someone who matters. Maybe it's time to ship MVP back to Smackdown where the lead writer actually pushed him effectively.

Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz vs. Jack Swagger vs. Carlito: A fun four-way match with the predictable "everybody hits their finisher" finish. They could have played this up in a big way by having Kofi express some concern that he was facing three heels. Unfortunately, they just threw it out there without much buildup.

WWE Raw Misses

Overall show: This is a short Hitlist because it was a very uneventful show. Was there anything about Raw that set up the pay-per-view? They dedicated way too much time to DX clowning around backstage and reliving the Monday Night Wars. Isn't this show geared toward children who don't even remember that era? I don't mind throwing longtime viewers an occasional bone, but these skits were just too much. If the idea was to push the WCW DVD, they failed miserably by focussing on some of the most embarrassing moments in the company's history. You'd think WWE would come up with some type of cliffhanger storyline that would keep viewers watching when the regular season of Monday Night Football debuts a week from Monday.

Diva Battle Royal: The fans were into the action until Gail Kim and Jillian Hall lost them with that clunky two-minute exchange. They took so damn long that it just became obvious that Beth was going to reenter the picture and win the match.

Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero: You know it's time to move on when even the kids in the crowd looked bored by the gag. Save Horny for house shows and keep him off television for at least two months. I might snap if I have to listen to Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler's fake laughter again next week.
