TNA Victory Road Hits
Angelina Love vs. Tara: I'm reaching here. The match was better than their first pay-per-view encounter, but I hated the finish once it was revealed that Slick Johnson accepted sexual favors to ignore Tara's foot on the ropes. I also don't understand why they rushed into Tara's first title win only to take it away from her just weeks later. What was the point?
Abyss vs. Dr. Stevie: A 10-minute squash match. I don't like the way Abyss plowed through Stevie, but the live crowd was into Abyss's offense, which is more than I can say about their reaction for the second half of the show. Again, I'm being generous.
Beer Money vs. Scott Steiner and Booker T: Beer Money got as much out of Booker and Steiner as they could. That's not high praise, but they're simply playing the cards that creative deals them. Horrible finish with James Storm acting like he drank Dr. Stevie's special water and was unable to roll over and break up the pin.
TNA Victory Road Misses
Overall show: This is the worst pay-per-view event so far this year. What's most alarming is that the main event was the only match that looked intriguing on paper. TNA is not putting their better workers in matches together. The old guys vs. young guys feud has been a failure in the sense that it's produced mostly lousy matches and none of the younger wrestlers have been elevated. Sure, they'll tell us that all the heels winning gold will somehow lead to the younger wrestlers going over, but we've been hearing that for the nine months that the Main Event Mafia has existed. The cycle never ends.
Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley: A gutty effort by Angle to work through the groin injury, but this was not a passable pay-per-view main event. It's a shame they didn't acknowledge Angle's legitimate injury because viewers who were unaware of it would have been more sympathetic. For all they know, it was just a lousy main event. It's a shame they couldn't move a different match into the main event slot, but there were no other matches that warranted main event consideration on this show.
Jenna Morasca vs. Sharmell: The worst wrestling match of the year. Jenna looked like a young Peggy Bundy and never should have appeared in the ring to begin with. I don't blame her, though. She's just collecting a paycheck and doing what they ask of her. I blame TNA for not recognizing that pro wrestling fans don't give a damn about Jenna Morasca. They've had months to figure out that their fans don't care. Rather than pull the plug, they put her in a horrible match that had one of the most idiotic finishes in history.
Samoa Joe vs. Sting with the debut of Taz: Has Sting ever tapped out before? I don't remember it if he has, so you'd think TNA would have made a big fuss over that. Hell, you'd think they'd make a big fuss out of Taz debuting for the company, but the announcers just acted like everyone knew.
Kevin Nash vs. A.J. Styles: Both guys tried hard, but they just don't work well together. The Legends Title remains a joke that no one takes seriously. Styles is the best worker in the company, yet they keep booking him against guys who can't keep up with him.
