WWE Raw Hits

Seth Green: I blogged yesterday about WWE's need to do something to get people talking about their product rather than their former star Brock Lesnar. Bringing in Seth Green to host the show didn't accomplish that, but Green did a really nice job in this role. He took the gig seriously and displayed nice facial expressions in the backstage segments and especially in the ring. Bonus points to WWE for bringing in a celebrity who caters to the target demographic.

Seth Green, Triple H, and John Cena vs. Legacy: A fun match. Green's involvement was laid out perfectly. He booked as a celebrity super hero. Rather, his only offense came when John Cena was holding Cody Rhodes, and then when he broke up Randy Orton pinning Hunter. As I mentioned earlier, Green's facial expressions were great. He looked like he was in awe when Hunter hit an early suplex, he showed fear at the right times, and looked like he was concerned about his partners even when he was standing in the corner. Good work by Green and whomever laid out the match.

Mark Henry vs. Chris Jericho: A strong promo by Jericho that followed his entertaining backstage segment with Seth Green. Henry looked dominant again and the fans are responding to him as a babyface. Jericho lost nothing by walking out, and Henry looks like a badass because people are ducking him.

WWE Raw Misses

Overall show: Poor hype for most of the pay-per-view matches. I assumed going in that this would be the type of show that would leave me hating the celebrity involvement and enjoying most of the non-celebrity segments. It was just the opposite. The scary thing is that the writers theoretically had two weeks to write this show. I suppose things could have changed if they didn't get Green until late last week, but it just felt like they should have had some fresher matches and angles for the mid-card performers.

ZZ Top hosting next week's show: I dig ZZ Top music. They're classic rock icons. That said, they don't appeal to the target demographic. WWE needs to look hip and relevant, and bringing in ZZ Top makes them look like they're tragically outdated.

Jack Swagger vs. MVP: I'm fine with the clean pinfall since MVP could always come back next week and even the series. However, I didn't like the way this match was just thrown out there. They did nothing to hype this match during the show and it fell flat as a result. They actually dedicated two replays to Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero from WWE Superstars, but they did nothing for the hot VIP Lounge segment that aired last week.

The Miz vs. Primo: Nice to see Miz get a win, but I don't get the sense that either guy is over. Miz lost a lot when he was pinned by Cena twice in two nights. He's only a promo away from regaining his heat, but he has to get more mic time and a hot topic to pull it off. Primo means nothing right now, and I'm concerned that the fans are going to turn on him and cheer for his heel brother Carlito, whose charismatic enough that the fans still react to him regardless of how lousy his push has been.

Big Show vs. Evan Bourne: A glorified squash match with a scary spear that Bourne took awkwardly. Ouch. By the way, Big Show's predictable "one million dollars" skit is just another reminder of how dated WWE writing is, and it made him look like a tool.

Mickie James: She's challenging Maryse at the pay-per-view, yet she watched her partner Gail Kim pin Maryse in a tag match last week, and was pinned by Maryse in a six-Diva tag this week. Strange.

Hornswoggle vs. Chavo Guerrero: The thrill seems to be gone with Hornswoggle. The live crowds aren't reacting to him as much as they have in the past.
