Dot Net Members are listening to the 95-minute recap of WWE's "The Bash" pay-per-view that I recorded with Rich Twilling (who attended the show) late last night. Plus, they will be listening to the second part of the Konnan audio early this week. WWE "The Bash" Hits
Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho: What a treat. This was a tremendous show stealing match. Mysterio broke out some moves we haven't seen him perform in years, and both guys delivered an instant classic performance. Here's hoping this wasn't the end of the program. I don't know if Jericho is game, but I'd love to see a mask vs. hair match at SummerSlam. Either way, this match made the show and is worth going out of your way to see.
C.M. Punk vs. Jeff Hardy: I loved this finish. Punk entered to a very lackluster reaction from the live crowd. There were scattered cheers, scattered boos, but most people seemed to be sitting on their hands. I'm sure some viewers were frustrated by the finish, but there's no denying that Punk left to tremendous heat and it made viewers want to see a rematch. The announcers didn't acknowledge it, but I loved the sinister smile that Punk flashed Hardy from the stage.
Ted DiBiase babyface turn tease: I hated the main event finish, but this angle was crucial because the finish would have seemed even cheaper and more predictable had they not created some mystery regarding where DiBiase stood with Orton. Had they not created that mystery, it would have seemed even more predictable if Cody and Ted had come out and helped Orton.
Edge and Chris Jericho win the tag titles: The match was forgettable and the live crowd didn't seem to care about the other tag teams involved. However, I'm happy to see Edge and Jericho win because the Unified Tag Titles can be defended on any WWE show, and the Raw brand could use their star power.
WWE "The Bash" Misses
Randy Orton vs. Triple H: Good effort from both men, but I'm bored with this feud. Based on the live crowd's reaction, most people are bored with this feud. Unfortunately, that's not going to stop WWE from shoving it down our throats. We've seen them wrestle, we've watched them brawl, we've seen injury angles, and viewers still aren't hooked on this program. They just don't have great matches together and it's time to move on.
John Cena vs. The Miz: This was about a minute longer than a standard Raw match. Cena is the most popular wrestler on the Raw brand. He's a merchandising juggernaut. I get it. What I don't understand is why WWE refuses to give the heels he works with enough credibility to extend their feuds in a manner that keep the fans interested. The Cena fans hated Miz, and WWE could have put even more heat on him and made more money by having Miz win in a fluky manner with outside interference to extend the program. The Raw show desperately needs to create new stars and this was a missed opportunity to do so.
Michelle McCool vs. Melina: The fans just don't react to McCool. I give her credit for improving in the ring, but the fans don't care about her or her matches. Sadly, that isn't stopping WWE from shoving McCool down our throats. By the way, the fans didn't react to McCool stretching Melina so that her foot touched her head because they've already seen it before. It meant something when Beth Phoenix used Melina's foot to kick the back of her head, but this just felt like a repeat spot and the novelty of seeing how flexible Melina is has worn off.
ECW Scramble: A disappointing match. The live crowd didn't have a clue that Dreamer won until his music played. It was hilarious to listen to them count down the final seconds and then go silent until Dreamer's music kicked in several seconds later. I was surprised the finish was so uneventful given that this was the only scramble match on the show unlike the last time they used the concept.
