WWE Raw Hits
The Miz: For the second straight week, The Miz was the most entertaining performer on Raw. I love the edge he's showing by bringing up topics that are typically taboo on WWE programming, such as John Cena's movie bombing, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson using Cena's latest movie script as toilet paper. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Cena squashes Miz, so I'm just enjoying this while it lasts. Here's hoping WWE will do something to give the guy some in-ring credibility because he's quickly emerging as one of the best talkers on the show.
Legacy: Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase didn't exactly go over strong in their singles matches, but at least the group was featured prominently throughout the show. WWE was in a tough spot given that they're trying to push MVP, and Batista is heading into a title match at the pay-per-view, so I didn't expect Rhodes or DiBiase to go over clean anyway. It was interesting that Jerry Lawler made a point of talking about how much Rhodes and DiBiase reminded him of Randy Orton in the ring. I was happy to see them take out Shane McMahon, who is good in small doses. We were getting too much Shane for my liking in recent weeks, and the time was right for him to duck out for a few months.
Matt Hardy vs. Kofi Kingston: That's two wins in a row for Kofi on Monday nights. Meanwhile, Hardy continued to come across like a whiner and I dig the way the announcers are questioning whether his hand injury is legit. Hardy is doing much more than I expected him to do give the initial prognosis was that he could be out of action for up to six weeks. He didn't take a bump last week, but he did a little more in this match. I was worried about Matt when his feud with Jeff got off to such a rocky start, but he seems to be getting more comfortable with his heel persona every week. At this rate, there's no reason he can't become a top tier heel on the Raw brand.
Overall show: A minor "Hit." This wasn't a truly memorable Raw despite Legacy's attack on Shane McMahon at the end of the night. Nevertheless, it was a solid show that made Legacy look stronger and focussed nicely on some of the recent Raw draftees.
WWE Raw Misses
Big Show and John Cena: I feel like we've seen this feud before. Sure, I got a kick out of the way Cena hobbled to the ring to confront Miz only to have Show's music play. However, the rest of the segment was so slow-paced that I lost interest before Show attacked Cena. Am I the only person who thinks it would be cool if Miz became Show's sidekick? Work with me here for a minute. Miz could garner mega-heat by shooting his mouth off and hiding behind the giant when push comes to shove. Show needs something new to freshen up his act, and The Miz has proven that he should be more than just another lost in the shuffle mid-card performer.
Carlito vs. The Brian Kendrick: I'm already frustrated by the lack of a push that Kendrick has received since he moved to Monday nights. Sure, it's still early in his run on Raw, but that's back-to-back losses. I didn't flinch when he lost to Kofi Kingston last week, but losing to one-half of the tag champs the following week shows that WWE was more concerned with getting Carlito a win following his loss to Ted DiBiase on WWE Superstars than they were with getting Kendrick some heat on his new brand. I was worried that Kendrick would become a jobber to the stars on Monday nights, and I still wish they would have moved him to the ECW brand where he could have had some great matches with guys like Evan Bourne, Tyson Kidd, and Christian.
Singing Festus: It wasn't that long ago that many of us felt that Festus has potential as a singles wrestler. His act was over and he worked a singles match against Taker, which could have been used to transition him into a more serious role. Instead, he cooled off after that match and is now cast in the Trevor Murdoch role on Raw. What the hell is the infatuation of the Raw creative team when it comes to singing wrestlers? I realize most of these guys wish they were Saturday Night Live writers, but the least they could do is pick a good era of SNL rather than the crappy era with Mya Rudolph singing in every other skit.
WWE Superstars: If WWE wants to make the new weekly series seem like a can't miss show, then they should recap the results on the various shows. They don't have to make a huge fuss over Superstars, but at least send the message to Raw and Smackdown viewers that what happens on the show matters.
Subway's Jared: I can't believe this guy still makes a living off of losing a bunch of weight by eating Subway. I spend the entire segment praying that Big Show's music would play so that he could come out and eat Jared live on Raw.
