TNA Impact Hits

Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley opening segment: Excellent opening segment. Foley came across slightly cocky, and Jarrett showed just the right amount of aggravation with Foley's gloating promo. I really enjoy the dynamic between these two and the way they're getting on each other's nerves. However, I feel they jumped the gun by having Foley hit Jarrett with a chair at the end of the show. They could have gotten more out of the uncomfortable tension that existed between these two before having Foley deliver the chairshot. That said, Foley was fun during the video segments in his hometown. His boasting about being the World Champion meshes with his sense of humor and also helped show that his ego is growing. I'm not crazy about Mick being the TNA Champion at this stage in his career, but it could be a fun transitional period.

Beer Money vs. Lethal Consequences: Nice match. I'm still digging the serious Beer Money act. Abandoning the comedy and Jacqueline has been great for Beer Money. Lethal Consequences still doesn't mean anything. Again, the match was solid, but Jay Lethal and Consequences Creed still come across like their one notch above being enhancement talent. I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again, the Black Machismo gimmick has run its course. It's time for Lethal to evolve and stop dressing up like a WWE Hall of Famer, er, a guy who should be in the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Beautiful People Party: Hilarious, but the "dancing boys" shouldn't quit their day jobs. Awesome Kong breaking up the party was another nice touch and Kong chasing Angelina Love will be fun to watch.

A.J. Styles vs. Kevin Nash: I wasn't expecting much from this match, but it was a pleasant surprise. Styles bumped nicely for Nash and helped get the giant elbow pad over as a weapon. Unfortunately, the announcers, who were better than usual last night, didn't make a big enough fuss over the elbow pad. Nevertheless, it was a good back and forth match until the campy finish. By the way, does anyone really give a damn about Jenna Morasca? If she's being paid based on the publicity she's generating for the company as TNA insiders claim then I hope she saved her "Survivor" money.

TNA Impact Misses

Too many gimmicks: Mick Foley nailed it when he asked Jeff Jarrett what happened to one-on-one competition during the opening segment. I can live with the four-way match at Sacrifice, but I could do without the gimmick that the challengers have to sacrifice something. Furthermore, did we really need a "Cactus Jack Smack Attack" match on Impact? Here's an idea. Since TNA likes concepts and themes so much, maybe they should hold just one pay-per-view event per year where there are no gimmick matches or multi-person matches are that are booked strictly to get everyone on the show.

Bobby Lashley: I can't get over the fact that TNA continuously resorts to bringing in former WWE talent. I have no idea what TNA is paying Lashley, but one can only hope that they're not going to cast another part-time player as a main eventer at the expense of guys who work all the shows and just need the right push to become major players. At some point, this company will have to create it's own stars. They have A.J. Styles over to some extent, but they've dropped the ball with every other young wrestler they've tried to make. Samoa Joe is in a horrible place right now. I'm optimistic that Taz will help him get over, but this Nation of Violence bit is atrocious.

Jeff Jarrett overload: There was way too much Jarrett on the show last night. I'd be saying the same thing if they had featured any main eventer as much as they showed Jarrett. What was the point of Slick Johnson telling Jarrett that his daughter called? I'm guessing it will lead to something, but I couldn't help but wonder why Jarrett's character doesn't have a cell phone. For that matter, I still don't understand why Johnson was given camera time.

Team 3D tag tournament: They story that they want to give back by holding a tag team tournament named after them is a little too precious for me. The tag team division is in a good place right now. TNA should be focussing their efforts on making the X Division mean something again.

Daniels: Whatever happened to "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels? What on earth made TNA officials decide to drop the guy's first name? That said, I enjoyed his sitdown interview with Mike Tenay. He was relaxed and came across well.

Taylor Wilde vs. Sojourner Bolt: If you blinked then you probably missed it. A three-minute ladder match? What a waste. Am I the only person who would have cut out one of the countless Jeff Jarrett backstage segments to give this match more time? Slick Johnson speaks? Really?

Madison Rayne: If she's in the group (and I don't understand why they were so anxious to add a third member) then they should at least give her some mic time and let her establish a character.
