WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Jeff Hardy vs. Big Show, Triple H vs. Chavo Guerrero, Shelton Benjamin vs. Hurricane Helms, Edge, MVP, Maryse captures the WWE Divas Championship
By Jason Powell Dec 27, 2008 - 11:17 AM

WWE Smackdown Hits

Shelton Benjamin vs. Hurricane Helms: Highly entertaining title match with good nearfalls and another Paydirt out of nowhere finisher. They've done a nice job of establishing that Shelton can hit the move anytime to end the match. Helms also looked strong and I'd like to see more from these two. I hope they don't burn through Helms as quickly as they did R-Truth when he was in the challenger's role.

Maryse vs. Michelle McCool: It's always cool to see a title change on a free television show. Mayrse has come a long way in a short stretch of time and she's deserving of a run with the belt. McCool will be much better off as a heel. She has a natural bitchiness to her. She always seemed to be forcing it when she played the babyface role, whereas she seems to have an easier time playing a heel.

Triple H vs. Chavo Guerrero: Fun comedy match with Chavo trying and failing to recreate Eddie Guerrero's bit with the chair. I think the funniest part of Hunter's routine last night was unintentional. I cracked up when he stood in the ring with the sledgehammer in hand and called out Vladimir Kozlov. You know, who wouldn't come to the ring empty handed to fight a guy with a sledgehammer in his hand.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Jeff Hardy vs. Big Show: I don't like the way they've featured Hardy on television since he won the WWE Title. It's very reminiscent of the way Rey Mysterio and C.M. Punk were used after they captured World Titles. Hardy should be rolling over opponents early like all the guys Vince McMahon considers long-term champions do. I'm not saying he should have squashed Big Show. Rather, I don't think they should have been in the ring together. So far, Hardy has looked mediocre against Vladimir Kozlov and Big Show in his two appearances since winning the title.

Edge backstage: Clearly, WWE was concerned that he would get a babyface reaction if he stepped foot inside the arena in Toronto. Weak. The Canadian crowds are always fun and I get a big kick out of seeing them cheer their fellow countrymen. The average fan at home is smart enough to realize why the Canadians are cheering certain heels. By the way, Big Show has no chemistry with Vickie Guerrero or Edge.

Umaga video: Too similar to the last round of Umaga videos that aired before his debut on Smackdown. There are some characters that don't need to be reintroduced. Why not just have him appear out of nowhere and surprise the fans?

Great Khali squashes MVP: I know this is going to end soon and there will be a payoff, but I hope they hurry up and deliver it sooner rather than later.
