TNA Impact Hitlist: Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett, Mick Foley pals around with the Main Event Mafia, Abyss is an inside joke that only TNA creative is laughing at, fun X Division matches
Dec 19, 2008 - 10:48 AM

TNA Impact Hits

Chris Sabin vs. Sonjay Dutt: It was nice to see them get a little more time than usual. Granted, it was just a five minute match, but that's a minute or two longer than most X Divisions last these days on Impact and the wrestlers made the most of the extra time. I enjoyed this match and the Motor City Machine Guns are getting over.

Kiyoshi vs. Consquences Creed: I dug the Great Muta-inspired Kiyoshi act and I hope we see more of him in TNA. If not, then it was foolish to have him defeat one of the TNA regulars unless the plan is to let Creed beat him on his way out.

Mick Foley and Jeff Jarrett: I like the changing dynamic between these two. They were so happy go lucky before and it's nice to see there's some tension between them now over Foley hanging out with the Mafia members.

A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe vs. Sting and Kevin Nash: A decent television main event. I thought Joe looked really weak, though, because he cut the intense promo early in the show and finished the night having his ass kicked by the Mafia. The shot of Sting not taking part in the beatdown was well done and the slow build toward his babyface turn (not that he ever really turned heel) has been good so far.

TNA Impact Misses

Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett: Why do these two insist on bringing Jarrett's daughters into their storyline? It's just plain sleazy and Jarrett should be ashamed of himself for exploiting his children in this manner. I enjoy the Angle vs. Jarrett feud and it's one of the bigger storylines in TNA, but that's is in spite of all the orphan talk.

Abyss: I'm stunned at just how comically awful the character has become. Abyss was a great heel monster and he was one of the real success stories in TNA until the creative team decided to tell inside jokes at his expense. He's neurotic. We get it. Stop humoring yourselves and start focussing on making money with the guy.

Rhino vs. Lance Rock: I must question the logic of opening the show with a performer who just drew the lowest rating of the show in a match with Sting, and a guy who is saddled with the corniest gimmick of the year. At least it was quick and painless.

Robert Roode's Rough Cuts segment: The Rough Cuts concept works well for babyfaces, but not so much for heels or guys who have specific characters like Roode does. Over the last two weeks, these segments made me think James Storm and Robert Roode are good guys. Unless there's a babyface turn coming, I don't think that's what the company was going for. Roode's clip also left me scratching my head because his character is supposedly rich, yet there was nothing in the footage that made me believe in his character. This is the equivalent of movie producers inserting an interview with an actor who plays the lead villain in the middle of a movie.

TNA Knockouts Division: I can't believe how badly the division has fallen apart since Gail Kim and agent Scott D'Amore left the company. They are desperate for women who can wrestle, yet they aren't exactly showcasing the better female wrestlers in the company. That segment with Rhaka Khan and Christy Hemme in the ring together was downright awful. Khan can't work and she shouldn't be put in the ring. Meanwhile, I like the Beautiful People, but these skits with the Sarah Palin impersonator are horrible. Bad wrestling and campy backstage skits. Is this the TNA Knockouts division or a modern day version of GLOW?
