TNA Impact Hitlist: TNA announces the most ridiculous title match in company history, bringing back the briefcase fiasco match and the Turkey Bowl, four on-air authority figures
Nov 21, 2008 - 03:03 PM |
TNA Impact Hits
Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles vs. Motor City Machine Guns: After getting less than six minutes of actual wrestling in the first hour of the show, we finally got this gem of a matchup. Unfortunately, TNA decided to place a three-minute commercial break in the the seven-minute match, so we only saw about four minutes of this match. It was very entertaining while it lasted and I'd love to see more from these two teams.
Rhino: TNA found a way to have the Main Event Mafia beat the hell out of Rhino, yet have him seem like a prominent member of the storyline by the time the show concluded. That being said, I know I wasn't the only person rolling my eyes when Mick Foley called for a drum roll before announcing that Rhino would face Kurt Angle at the pay-per-view.
Booker T vs. Eric Young: A solid television match with hard work from both men. I still don't understand why Jim Cornette didn't give Young a rematch with Sheik Abdul Bashir if he felt bad about reversing the finish of the X Division Title change last week, but I guess that's a question that only TNA creative can answer.
TNA Impact Misses
Mick Foley announces the TNA Title match for Final Resolutions: This segment was an absolute disaster. Poor Foley had to go out there and announce that A.J. Styles can win the TNA Title if any member of his team defeats any member of Sting's team in the eight-man tag match at the pay-per-view. This is beyond awful. I give TNA credit for finally coming to the realization that people don't order pay-per-views to see meaningless eight-man tag main events, but the idea that Styles can win the belt without even pinning Sting or anyone else is absolutely ridiculous. And could someone explain why Foley decided Styles can win the title in this match and not one of the other team members? This is one of the worst ideas that TNA has ever come up with and further proof that the creative team is clueless.
Feast or Famine match: TNA creative seemingly tried to latch on to the "Deal or No Deal" buzz last year by introducing this silly gimmick match. What's worse is that they took forever to have the winners of the title match contracts get their shots. TNA's creative team should have chalked this up as a bad idea last year and moved on, but that's one of the big problems with this company. The creative team flat out refuses to acknowledge mistakes and failures. They stubbornly stick with asinine concepts and gimmick matches no matter how negative the fan reaction is, which brings us to...
TNA Turkey Bowl: Would it be too much for this company to deliver a strong lineup of matches on Thanksgiving night? No, instead they go back to the same ridiculous concept they used last year because they refuse once again to acknowledge that one of their ideas was bad.
Abundance of authority figures: Let me get this straight. Jeff Jarrett is the founder of TNA. We know this because he tells us at least five times per show. Mick Foley is an executive investor. Jim Cornette still has some type of power because he gave Sheik Abdul Bashir the X Division Title back. Traci Brooks is in charge of the Knockouts Division. How many on-air authority figures does one company really need?
Overall show: Whatever positive vibes the company had coming off the introduction of the Main Event Mafia is gone as far as this viewer is concerned. This show was filled with an astonishing number of bad booking decisions. The booking team should be embarrassed. The only person who should be more embarrassed is Dixie Carter for continuing to let it happen.
