TNA Impact Hitlist: Main Event Mafia attacks Christian Cage, Mick Foley's speech, Motor City Machine Guns, Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles vs. Beer Money, Sting vs. Jay Lethal
Nov 14, 2008 - 12:29 PM

TNA Impact Hits

Mick Foley speech: A nice segment with Foley showing passion for the first time since he arrived in TNA. He can still play the nice guy and then flip the switch into serious mode like no one else in the business. The Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles characters have taken some hits lately, so it's good to see that Foley can serve as an unofficial mouthpiece for the young guys.

Sting vs. Jay Lethal: Good energy and a fun match. It bothered me to see Foley arbitrarily reward Lethal with a title match when he didn't do anything to earn it, but the match made for entertaining television.

Beer Money vs. Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles: A really nice match despite the predictable crappy finish. I never realized beer was such a dangerous weapon. Ugh. Still, I'd like to see more from these four. By the way, when did Team 3D turn babyface?

TNA Impact Misses

Main Event Mafia attack on Christian Cage: Did they think they were spoiling a potential WWE surprise by announcing that Cage might be leaving TNA? The only thing that will do is make TNA viewers more likely to watch WWE programming to see if Cage actually shows up. I'm fine with the Mafia attacking Cage and cutting off his storyline until his contract negotiations conclude, but all the WWE talk felt counterproductive. I'm not alone in this either, as 62 percent of Dot Net voters feel that the angle got them more excited about the possibility of Cage going back to WWE (as I'm writing this). By the way, I know I couldn't have been the only one who noticed that Sting didn't take part in the beatdown angle.

TNA Originals: Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles are legit, but the rest of these guys come across like undercard X Division performers. There was a time when being an X Division wrestler meant something, but the current state of the comedy division is so weak that most of the guys associated with it don't seem like legit players in TNA. It will take some time and effort to build those wrestlers into something more. They could get off to a great start by having Petey Williams and Jay Lethal alter their looks so that they don't come across like posers.

Motor City Machine Guns: Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to see these two get more camera time and I am intrigued by their cocky routine, but doesn't their behavior prove the Main Event Mafia members right? TNA is having a hard enough time getting the fans to cheer for the TNA Originals that it seems odd for the company to make it seem like the heels have a good argument. That being said, at least the Guns are being featured prominently, which is long overdue.

Eric Young: I'm already annoyed by that silly smile he flashes whenever his pyro goes off. It was cute the first week, but I hope this doesn't become a permanent part of his entrance. Great, you're not afraid of pyro anymore. Do you want a medal? Yes, I'm nitpicking about this and I am happy that Young is playing a more serious character, but his act is a little too precious right now. The X Division Title win was a joke and it looked ridiculous for all the TNA Originals to run out and celebrate when the spaz wannabe wrestler referee guy won the match for Young.
