WWE Smackdown Hits
Jeff Hardy vs. MVP: Good match. No surprise given the two wrestlers involved. There's no shame in losing to Hardy, but I am tired of watching MVP lose week in and week out. You know it's bad when Gregory Helms is mocking your losing streak. Let this guy out of the doghouse and make some money already.
Triple H vs. Big Show: The cheap finish was a letdown, but at least the match didn't end with Hunter about to hit the Pedigree. Rather, they kept Show strong for his feud with Taker and an inevitable feud with Hunter. The post-match fighting with Show and Taker, and especially Hunter and Kozlov was much better than the actual match. I also like the edge that Hardy showed in his promo and then again at the end of the show when he hit the Twist of Fate on Hunter.
Vladimir Kozlov promo: Nice promo. Short, yet effective. I'd still like to see him get a manager at some point, but I'm digging the Ivan Drago approach right now.
Kung Fu Naki and R-Truth: I hope the creative team doesn't get so sidetracked by their tribute to Chris Rock and Jackie Chan that R-Truth becomes a comedy figure, but this was a cute segment and these two could be fun together in small doses.
Festus: A minor hit for the pre- and post-match match Festus gravitating toward an uncomfortable Maria. Funny.
Comedy Khali and Runjin Singh: Runjin is doing a really nice job on the mic for Khali and the second Kiss Cam bit was a riot because of Khali's reluctance to kiss the woman. By the way, I don't know if I've ever given this many comedy segments hits in one Hitlist before.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Big Show and Vickie Guerrero: Boring. I keep waiting for them to jell, but it's just not happening. They have zero chemistry together and I was bored throughout their opening segment. Even Show's line to Vladimir Kozlov about not being an American was weak. By the way, why did Show's feud with Taker get treated like the biggest Smackdown event coming out of the pay-per-view? What about the great match between Triple H and Jeff Hardy?
Lack of hype for Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth: After all these weeks of buildup, they just threw this match out there without advertising it. This could have been a Smackdown main event had they advertised it and made a big fuss over it. Maybe it wouldn't be a big enough main event for the early weeks of MyNetwork, but it is a match they should have advertised a week out like they did with Triple H vs. Big Show. That being said, I enjoyed their match and I look forward to seeing the next chapter of this feud.
Hurricane Helms's comment: I didn't care for him saying now one fears the team of Zach Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Ryan Braddock, and Kenny Dykstra. Obviously, this wasn't his call, but I don't understand why WWE would mock their own talent. It would be different if they were legitimate jobbers like the wrestlers Great Khali faced, but Ryder and Hawkins are former tag champions, and Dykstra and Braddock have potential. Why bury the talent like that?
