TNA Impact Hitlist: Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Sting, Booker T, Christian Cage, Abyss, Matt Morgan, final hype for Sunday's Bound For Glory PPV
By Jason Powell Oct 10, 2008 - 10:30 AM

TNA Impact Hits

Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle final hype: Very well done. Jarrett is playing his new babyface role exceptionally well. He's one of the most likable characters in pro wrestling right now and his comeback has been handled tremendously thus far. The final hype with Jarrett handing Angle his medal back and offering his hand was great. Angle's acceptance of the handshake followed by the verbal shot he took at Jarrett was perfect. TNA has done one hell of a job building up this match, and the addition of Mick Foley as the special enforcer is just icing on the cake.

Sting and Samoa Joe hype: I have mixed emotions on this one. The buildup has been solid, but I don't like the way they've neglected to put any focus on the TNA Title. It feels like these two have a personal grudge and Joe just happens to hold the title. Sting and Joe didn't talk about how much the belt means to them and it just feels like an afterthought. I'm still giving the match hype a hit because I am looking forward to watching it play out on Sunday night.

Christian Cage: He continues to do a nice job of playing his role as the mystery man in the veterans vs. young guys program well. It comes across like he's above it all and it would be cool if he played a lone wolf. If nothing else, it feels like it's too soon for him to pick a side, so I hope it doesn't show his cards at the pay-per-view.

Smashing Pumpkins: They may not be at the peak of their commercial popularity, but they're still a damn good band and they give TNA some credibility. I know live performances at pro wrestling events usually suck, but there's a part of me that wishes they were going to perform at the pay-per-view.

TNA Impact Misses

Booker T: His new African accent might be funny if he were a mid-card comedy act, but TNA is paying him too much money to play that role. They really had something when he as playing a toned down version of the King Booker character he played in WWE. Unfortunately, they've gone so far over the top with his latest character that it's hard to take him or the storylines he's involved in seriously.

Three matches announced: I didn't care for the way TNA threw three matches together on the go-home show for Bound For Glory. The X Division Title match just feels like a random match that could occur on any pay-per-view. Prince Abdul Bashir tried to make it meaningful via his promo, but this is another example of the focus being somewhere other than on the title belt. Had they announced this match a few weeks ago, they could have set it up more effectively. For that matter, they could have at least given Creed a chance what winning the X Division Title would mean to him.

Abyss and Matt Morgan: Did Abyss really pull out strands of his hair and hand the clump to a fan at ringside? The time has come for TNA to acknowledge the fact that he's bombed in his comeback. Abyss is a talented performer, but this version of his character isn't clicking. For that matter, all those months they kept Morgan out of the ring while supposedly building up his character did nothing for him.
