TNA Impact Hits
Sting promo: I'm not sure that blurring the lines between heel and babyfaces is a smart move when the guy who was pegged as the long-term heel received more cheers than the top two babyfaces. Nevertheless, Sting knocked it out of the park and this made for compelling television.
Samoa Joe on commentary: Joe was very good in this role. He did a better job of putting over the wrestlers and their match than Mike Tenay and Don West ever do. More importantly, he helped viewers understand the mindset of his character. He made it clear that he likes Nash but doesn't trust him, and for once he did that without blowing his stack and looking like a meathead with anger issues. Very nice work. Plus, having Joe on commentary with the title belt made the match seem more important.
Awesome Kong and ODB: Kong continues to be one of the best monsters in the business, so it meant something when ODB got the better of her in their brawl. Kong and ODB's matches won't be as good as Kong and Gail Kim's were, but they can still have entertaining brawls. If nothing else, it's nice to see ODB back in the main mix after fading into the background in the recent weeks.
Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt: They're going to have a ladder match where the goal is to retrieve SoCal Val's engagement ring and the winner gets to be with her. It's so ridiculous and so absurd that I actually like it.
TNA Impact Misses
Kurt Angle vs. Kevin Nash: This wasn't nearly as good as the last time they met on Impact. Their previous match was surprisingly solid, but this was slow paced and uneventful. The fact that it was a qualifier in the Four Ways to Glory match meant nothing because they haven't done a good job of making that seem like a major event where the challengers have a good chance to win. WWE has gone out of their way to make it seem like their champions are at a disadvantage in the Championship Scramble matches, but this just feels like another multi-player title match.
Karen Angle's segment: She gets harassed or someone else gets beat up every week. Why in the hell would her character even want the job? Abyss played his role well as the creepy stalker, but the problem is that I thought he was a babyface who saved everyone from unfair heel attacks. Was this a heel turn? I don't get it.
Kip James with The Beautiful People: This might work better if Kip hadn't already played a gay character who admitted he wasn't really gay. On second thought, it would still suck.
