WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Triple H working with new blood, Undertaker and Vickie Guerrero, MVP, Brian Kendrick
By Jason Powell Aug 23, 2008 - 04:41 AM

WWE Smackdown Hits

WWE Title Championship Scramble: I'm looking forward to this match a lot more than the Raw version simply because they added so much new blood to the mix. Plus, everyone involved in the match can really go and they should be nonstop action.

The Brian Kendrick's battle royal win: Classic cheap victory and Kendrick's post-match celebration was great. Plus, the battle royal also furthered the story of Big Show's growing frustration. Here's hoping Kendrick scores a pinfall in the Championship Scramble so that he can tout the fact that he was an interim WWE Champion.

MVP vs. Festus: Fun match with a creative finish that gives MVP the win and protects Festus. MVP's post-match antics were great. I loved the way he made sure Festus was in post-bell mode and then delivered the Drive-by Kick to the chops.

R-Truth: Apparently, this was the final vignette in the series, as the character will debut on television next week. Excellent work. I can't remember the last series of WWE vignettes that were this entertaining and effective.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Finlay: Part of me felt like this match was going on a little too longer for television because I'm just not sure that the average viewer wants to see a 16-minute match between two mid-card acts. And then I decided screw the average viewer and the fans in the live crowd that were responsible for the scattered "boring" taunts. Good hard-hitting action, particularly down the stretch. Still, I could do without wrestlers crossing the brand lines if there's not a major storyline involved.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Vickie Guerrero: Her performance was flat and the verbiage she was given didn't help matters. Worst of all, what should have been Taker's triumphant return to Smackdown following the long layoff also felt flat because she introduced him. Fortunately, her plea for mercy and his tremendous "Look at me woman... I came for your soul" lines saved the segment.

Triple H on commentary: I thought Hunter would have been much better in this role. He sounded uninterested in the match at times he didn't do a good job of putting over Jeff Hardy or Great Khali during the match. The look of concern he flash after Hardy won the match was more effective than anything he said on commentary.
