TNA Impact Hitlist: Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles ladder match, Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong in a street fight, Booker T, Kevin Nash, Motor City Machine Guns
By Jason Powell Aug 22, 2008 - 09:37 AM

TNA Impact Hits

Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles ladder match: This was much better than a typical Impact main event. I had to laugh at the "Only TNA" decision to cut away from the action in the ring to feature Sharmell walking down the ramp as the teaser heading into the commercial break. I realize the Knockouts do great ratings and I'm a big fan of Sharmell's heel work (more on that in a minute), but that was pushing it. We'll get to the match finish in the other section.

Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong: It's a shame Gail is leaving, but this "Hit" has nothing to do with this being her final Impact match. Rather, this was a good street fight match between the two most talented performers in the Knockout division. The post-match antics with Kong and Kim's storyline sister were well done.

Kurt Angle and Booker T backstage segment: Great backstage verbal exchange in Booker's rock star dressing room. I just wish they'd do more with Sharmell, who is awesome as the overly supportive wife. Hilarious segment. Booker referring to Rhino as "Rhinoceros" cracked me up for some reason. Maybe the top heels shouldn't be this comical, but I enjoyed the brief segment too much to care.

Kevin Nash sit-down interview: Very nicely done. Nash is excellent in this setting and he helped set the stage nicely for Sting's explanation next week. Furthermore, if it turns out that Nash is really the person behind the attacks, then his comments about giving up his chair to Harley Race when he was breaking in and comparing it to the way the younger guys treat the veterans today will serve as quality foreshadowing.

TNA Imapct Misses

Lights Out Finishes: It's getting to be way too much. The Sting gimmick was already tired and now we're getting the same routine for the Jeff Jarrett teases. It would be one thing if these teases occurred during lesser matches or during interview segments, but they used similar finishes in the pay-per-view main event and in the last two Impact main events.

Hype for Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles: Why wouldn't they advertise a ladder match between these two guys at least one week out? The only reason I knew this match was going to be on the show was because I watched TNA Today earlier this week and Jeremy Borash mentioned it.

Motor City Machine Guns presentation: What's with that generic entrance music? Seriously, it sounds like a 13 year-old playing guitar through an amp in his bedroom, and the song just doesn't mesh with the image they should be going for. It might seem like I'm nitpicking, but music is such an important factor with the demographic the duo should be reaching. I like the Guns and I'm intrigued by their heel turn, but I'm not sure why they have to lose to a non-factor team like B.G. James and Eric Young to get there.

Karen's Angle: Can't they lock the damn door to the set? At least one person has crashed the set every week since this interview show debuted.
