WWE Raw Hitlist: Chris Jericho vs. C.M. Punk, John Cena beats Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, plus Batista, Kane, JBL, Mike Adamle
Aug 19, 2008 - 10:29 AM

WWE Raw Hits

Chris Jericho: His remorseless explanation for striking Rebecca Michaels was exceptional and the crowd heat was off the charts. I mentioned last night that I'm surprised Jericho isn't getting more cheers from the live crowds because he's been playing his character so well. I wonder if that will change once he moves on from his feud with the ultra-popular Shawn Michaels.

John Cena and Batista: Nice confrontation backstage. I'm happy the wrestlers didn't mention that "three seconds better" bullshit because that's the point in every match. Isn't it enough to call it a great match and claim that it could have gone either way? Still, they had a logical backstage exchange that addressed their match the night before and let them move onto other things.

WWE Raw Misses

John Cena beats Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase: Why not just hang a banner above the ring and write in big neon letters that the tag team titles mean nothing and the guys holding the belts mean even less? It was bad enough when Cena hit the double FU on the tag champs recently, but now he beat them both in a handicap match? How can anyone take Rhodes and DiBiase seriously for the next six months?

C.M. Punk vs. Chris Jericho: I enjoyed the match. It was a good television main event and it was one of Punk's better WWE television performances. However, I'm giving it a "Miss" simply because the match ever should have taken place. They couldn't kill Jericho's momentum by having Punk beat him, nor should they have had the World Hvt. Champion lose clean in his hometown. It would be one thing if Punk were an established champion and they were going for shock value, but they are supposedly trying to get him over.

Kane promo: A slithering little slime? A fungus that grows in the marshes of your psyche? Who wrote that hocus pocus, mumbo jumbo? Poor Kane. His character was finally interesting again before the creative team apparently called an audible and went with this silly Rey Mysterio storyline. I still believe James "Sinister Minister" Mitchell could save this mess.

Mike Adamle: The creative team must have figured out that his Ronald Reagan loving character bombed because they scaled back on his role and took away his chance to promote the championship scramble mess as an "Adamle Original." He means so little that they felt the need to make it seem like Stephanie and Shane McMahon came up with the match and he was just relaying the message. Ouch.

JBL beats Jamie Noble via ref stoppage: JBL had the man pinned, but the referee decided to call for the bell when he could have slapped the mat two more times. How silly was that? I'm guessing this was another one of those Vince McMahon special finishes that make sense to no one other than him.

Overall show: Raw is awful. The only segments worth watching involve Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels and that's because they clearly have creative freedom. Vince McMahon spends the bulk of his time on Raw, yet this is the best he can come up with? Maybe it's time to take that long overdue vacation, Vince.
