TNA Impact Wrestling Hits
James Storm: The brightest star in TNA and one of the most entertaining acts in all of pro wrestling right now. His promos are becoming "must see." He's not spouting off insider comments or attempting to cater to the online fan base. Rather, he's going out there and delivering charismatic and believable promos that all fans can buy into. I'm looking forward to Storm's match with Kurt Angle more than any match on Sunday's Final Resolution card.
Bobby Roode, Sting, and Dixie Carter opening segment: There were pros and cons to this segment. Perhaps it's just the old school Four Horseman fan in me, but I like seeing Roode decked out in the designer suit. I'm not sold on Dixie Carter as an on-air talent. I've never gotten the sense that the average viewer at home has been given enough incentive to care about her character. That said, Roode spitting in the face of a female was one hell of a heel move. It would be an even bigger moment if Roode were to do that to his own wife now that she's been brought into the storyline.
Mickie James vs. Madison Rayne: An entertaining Knockouts match. Good effort from both women. It's been a while since Mickie seemed motivated, so I hope this bodes well for Mickie's match with Gail Kim at Final Resolution. Meanwhile, Madison continues to be one of the most entertaining Knockouts.
Gunner and Garret Bischoff: A minor Hit. I'm not ready to advocate the idea of giving Garret this much television time, but that doesn't mean I can't praise the way the angle was laid out. Garret scoring fluke victories only to be destroyed by the highly frustrated Gunner is nicely done. Garret is taking a beating before winning his matches, so it's not like they're making him out to be Superman. I can think of countless guys who deserve television time before Eric Bischoff's son, but such is life in pro wrestling and the real world, I guess.
Abyss and Immortal: A minor Hit because I still view the Abyss character as being completely stale. However, I like the idea of Abyss working with Bully Ray, who is arguably the best heel in the company right now. If anyone can make the fans rally behind Abyss, it's Bully Ray.
TNA Impact Wrestling Misses
A.J. Styles sells an injury on the go-home show: Why in the world would TNA tell us the story that the babyface challenger is injured heading into his pay-per-view match? Most viewers expect Roode to go over since he just got the title and he has an eventual showdown match with James Storm ahead, so why give viewers another reason to assume Roode wins the match on Sunday?
Pope and Devon: Devon is very good on the mic for a guy who spent most of his career yelling a line from Pulp Fiction. However, I felt like I've heard the tag team speech from he and Brother Ray one too many times. I can live with that, but Pope bringing Devon's kids into the storyline with Matt Morgan and Crimson made me cringe. This feels like the longest running storyline in wrestling. I love a good, long story, but the key word is good. I stopped caring about Devon, Pope, and the kids months ago. Can we get to the payoff already?
