-The following predictions are made with no inside information regarding the match finishes.
The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth: What the hell happened to the hype? The Rock returning to the ring should feel like a mega event, yet somehow the company managed to make it feel like little more than a standard pay-per-view main event. The highly touted WWE hype machine needs more than a few quarts of oil, as I don't sense any mainstream buzz over this match.
Think about that. If someone had told you last year at this time that The Rock was going to be making his return to the ring at this Survivor Series, you would have assumed that it would feel like one of the biggest events of the year. Okay, so maybe it still does, but that says more about the sad state of WWE these days than anything.
The heels enter the match looking overmatched and overshadowed. Sure, they will probably win the match when Rock and Cena implode. Ultimately, that will give them something to boast about during promos for the next five years, but that's about all. In other words, I don't see Miz and Truth getting much out of this.
I'd love to see John Cena turn heel. I've been calling for it to happen at this pay-per-view ever since they announced that he'd be teaming with The Rock. I realize he's the face of the company, but he's done everything there is to do as a babyface and it's not like WWE is doing a good job of building up new heel dragons for him to slay. Plus, this product needs a serious spark. Whether it happens tonight or at WrestleMania, I am all for Cena turning.
Will it happen tonight? Probably not. They haven't done any foreshadowing to set up the turn, and all signs point to Mick Foley turning heel after being humiliated by The Rock and laughed at by Cena on Monday night. In fact, I'll take some interference by Foley to help the heels get the win. The faces will show that they could have won the match, though, only to have Cena get revenge on Rock for showing him up on Monday night by stopping him from using his finisher and trying to use his own. I'm just surprised that WWE didn't add some juice to the match by naming Foley the special referee at the end of Raw.
The Miz and R-Truth win with a little help from a new friend.
Mark Henry vs. Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship: Henry is the most over heel in the company because he's actually pushed as an in-ring threat to the babyfaces. Imagine that. If they take the title off him here, the powers that be really have lost their damn minds. I don't care how they get there or if it sets up a rematch, the important thing is that Henry retains.
Mark Henry retains the World Hvt. Championship.
Alberto Del Rio vs. C.M. Punk for the WWE Title: TLC is right around the corner and there's no reason for WWE to revert to a Del Rio vs. Cena match. Thus, I see this as a bridge to the big TLC match between Del Rio and Punk. Thus, I believe Punk somehow comes up short here in a manner that necessitates a rematch next month.
Alberto Del Rio retains the WWE Championship.
Randy Orton, Sheamus, Sin Cara, Kofi Kingston, and Mason Ryan vs. Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, and Hunico in a Survivor Series Tag Match: Just by looking at the face team, I'd be stunned if they lost this match. Obviously, Orton and Sheamus are top tier babyfaces, and WWE clearly has high hopes for Mason Ryan. I could see one of those guys being disqualified perhaps, but I'd be surprised if any of the three were actually pinned without some serious cheating by the heels.
Team Orton wins - Orton, Sheamus, and Ryan are left standing.
Dolph Ziggler vs. John Morrison for the WWE United States Championship: Ziggler is doing double duty by working this match and the Survivor Series elimination tag match (replacing the injured Christian). Dolph has been on a roll lately. He's delivering consistently entertaining in-ring performances, and his mic work has really improved over the last month.
Meanwhile, Morrison has his mojo back, at least according to the storyline. Ziggler has ongoing feuds with JoMo, Mason Ryan, and Zack Ryder. As much as I'd like to see him get away from the mid-card title and move into the main event mix, my guess is that WWE creative still has plans for Dolph as U.S. Champion. That said, it would be a fun moment if he did double duty and boasted that he was ready to have a third match, only to drop the strap in an impromptu match again New York's own Zack Ryder.
Dolph retains the U.S. Title in the match against Morrison.
Beth Phoenix vs Eve for the WWE Diva's Championship in a Lumberjills match: This has the potential to be one of the better Divas matches. Eve hasn't made a real connection with the audience, but she is arguably the best in-ring performer on the babyface side. If anything, the lumberjill aspect leaves me less enthused, though I suppose we would have been treated to the same Natalya and Kelly Kelly interference either way.
Beth Phoenix retains the Divas Championship.
