TNA Impact Wrestling Hits

James Storm wins the TNA Title: I can't give the actual match a Hit given the short length, but I won't give it a miss either due to Kurt Angle's injury. I do like the idea of Storm winning the title and the interesting dynamic it creates between Storm and Bobby Roode. I've always felt that Storm had more breakout babyface potential, and Roode would make the better heel of the two. It felt like they were miscast when the storyline appeared to be leading to those roles being flipped. I still don't care for the Bound For Glory main event, as I just can't justify the idea of ending a company's biggest pay-per-view of the year with a screwy finish. I'm happy with the end result, but TNA has to know that they absolutely must deliver clean finishes in the Bound For Glory main event for years to come if they want people to take that event seriously.

Robert Roode speech: A great pep talk. I wonder how similar his speech was to the promo that James Storm was scheduled to deliver at Bound For Glory until the segment was cut due to the show running long. Roode showed really good fire here. Anyone who is concerned about Roode's standing now that he failed to win the title should ease up and know that they are obviously headed toward Storm vs. Roode at some point, and I definitely wouldn't rule out a Roode heel turn and TNA Title win.

Brooke Tessmacher and Tara vs. Angelina Love and Winter: The match was nothing special, but I was so thrilled to get a break from all of the talking that I would have given a Hit to Cheex vs. Braden Walker if that had aired in this slot. I don't think there are enough women in TNA to justify having tag titles, but I do like the Tessmacher and Tara tag team.

TNA Impact Wrestling Misses

Overall show: I expected a talk-heavy show given that this was the first Impact following Bound For Glory. However, the amount of talking reached a level of absurdity and most of it didn't make for compelling television. I'm not the type of viewer who wants nothing but wrestling, but I expect the talking segments to be better than we saw on this show. The opening talking segment alone felt like it was never going to end. They had to establish that Dixie Carter was back in power, she was giving some of that power to Sting, and Hulk Hogan is back in the red and yellow. Frankly, they could have accomplished all of that in half the the time. From a storyline standpoint, I sure hope someone will take the time to explain why Eric Bischoff is still employed and Karen Jarrett is still in charge of the Knockouts Division even though Dixie Carter is back in power.

Everyone forgives Hulk Hogan: Sting told everyone for nearly two years that Hulk Hogan was pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. Dixie Carter had her company stolen from her by Hogan. Despite everything that has happened, Sting and Dixie couldn't forgive Hogan quickly enough. Granted, if the average TNA viewer ignores it like the Philadelphia fans ignored the fact that Hogan's babyface turn didn't make any storyline sense whatsoever then it won't matter, but it sure as hell frustrates this viewer who wants some basic storyline logic. By the way, who thought the tease of Dixie Carter coming to the ring was a good hook to keep viewers through the commercial break?

Abyss vs. Gunner: The Gunner promo was decent and it's good to see that he has the potential to be a good talker. I just can't get into anything Abyss does these days. The character went the way of Muammar Gaddafi long ago, and I don't believe the babyface turn will be enough to breathe new life into it.

Eric Young is bringing in some dude from Jersey Shore: Snooki or The Situation. I don't watch Jersey Shore, but those seem to be two people that people actually care about. Yes, this will get TNA some attention on the same gossip sites that covered their other Jersey Shore silliness. Brand awareness is important, but at some point they have to realize that they've gotten everything there is to get out of the Jersey Shore B-team players.
