TNA Victory Road PPV preview and predictions: Samoa Joe defends the TNA Title against Booker T, World X Cup preview with special guest prognosticator "Vinnie Ru"

The following predictions are made without any inside knowledge of the planned match finishes. In other words, I’m guessing just like you are. Check back tonight for "Live Coverage" of the TNA Victory Road pay-per-view, and then listen after the show for my review via Dot Net Audio. In case you missed it, you can check out my podcast preview of the pay-per-view by clicking here.
Samoa Joe vs. Booker T for the TNA Title: Booker is the hottest heel in the company. The match is in his hometown. He's one of the highest paid wrestlers in TNA. This should be a big money match, right? Um, not really. Most of TNA's focus for the past few weeks has been on the Joe and Kevin Nash angle. They came through with a last minute verbal exchange on Thursday between Joe and Booker, but it was too late to make this seem like the major match that it should be. Joe is the poster boy of the company right now and it's just too early in his run to take the strap off him. Joe retains.
LAX vs. Robert Roode and James Storm for the TNA Tag Titles: This is TNA so they can't just let these teams wrestle. Nope, it's a fans revenge country whipping match or some bullshit. Basically, some of Jeff Jarrett's buddies will get to whip the heels. I wonder if this is what they meant when they signed Hermie Sadler to a "personal services contract." LAX should retain, but the belts mean nothing because these teams have been more concerned with whipping each other that putting over what the value of the tag titles.
Taylor Wilde vs. Awesome Kong for the TNA Knockouts Title: I'm still baffled by TNA's decision to have Taylor capture the TNA Knockouts Title. Wasn't the $25,000 enough? Now she's reached her peak. Hey, but dreams do come true! Seriously, that may have been the corniest line in the history of TNA wrestling, and that's really saying something. I have no idea what they're going to do here. I'm sure the creative team would like to take that as a compliment because they believe they're booking is shocking, but it's really not. They never should have put the title on Taylor and now the mystery is whether they recognize this and put it back where it belongs or continue to pretend like they picked the right person to beat Kong.
A.J. Styles and Christian Cage and Rhino vs. Kurt Angle and Team 3D in a "fans pick the stipulation" match: Please let one of the stipulations be that there is no stipulation. How funny would that be? Isn't the point of a stipulation supposed to be that it adds some appeal to the match that will make fans want to see it? TNA hasn't even bothered to let us know what the possible stipulations are.
For all fans know, it's going to be a loser has to hug Rhino the next time he delivers one of those ultra-emo pussy promos about his daughter being upset because Uncle Christian kicked his ass. Barring a loser leaves TNA stipulation or the introduction of the World TNA Six-man Tag Titles, the stipulation won't make the outcome meaningful. How about the winner of the match gets the next shot at the TNA Title? Give me some reason to care who wins and then I'll make a prediction.
Editor's Note: Rich Twilling must pay more attention to Impact than I do. He can't remember the stipulations, but he swears they mentioned them on Thursday's Impact. No word on whether the Rhino hug stipulation was one of the options.
The finals of the World X Cup tournament with all four teams in an Ultimate X match, and an elimination match: It's hard to make a prediction when no one has bothered to tell us what the matches are. Hey, I know who can help us. Let's turn it over to celebrity prognosticator Vince Ru:
"I'm going tell you something right now that you will absolutely not agree with, but I've been a wrestling fan my whole life and I will live and die by this. It's hard enough, believe me, I write this shit, it's hard enough to get somebody over. You will never ever, ever, ever, ever see the Japanese wrestlers or the Mexican wrestlers over in American mainstream wrestling. And the simple reason for that is, even myself, I'm an American and I don't want to sound like a big bigot or a racist or anything like that, but I'm an American. If I'm watching wrestling here in America, I don't give a shit about a Japanese guy. I don't give a shit about a Mexican guy. I'm from America, and that's what I want to see." —Vinnie Ru, 1999 online interview.
Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt: Does SoCal Val shock the world by turning on Lethal this month? Will that be enough to make him abandon the tired Macho Man routine? Either way, I expect Lethal and Dutt to deliver a good match.
Gail Kim vs. Angelina Love: I'm really looking forward to this match. Honestly. These are two of the better female wrestlers in TNA and I'm hoping the company does the right thing by establishing that Love is more than just a character. She needs in-ring credibility. She doesn't have to beat Kim clean, but she should give her one hell of a run for her money. My guess is that Kim wins after Love's sidekick Velvet Sky is removed from ringside.
