Powell's TNA Victory Road preview and predictions: Sting vs. Jeff Hardy for the TNA Title, Matt Morgan vs. Herandnez in a First Blood match, Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Anderson to become No. 1 contender, A.J. Styles vs. Matt Hardy
Mar 13, 2011 - 01:10 PM

The following predictions are made without any inside knowledge of the match finishes. Join me tonight for TNA Victory Road live coverage. Sting vs. Jeff Hardy for the TNA Title: It's hard to get excited about a title match that was announced during the last half-hour of the go-home show. These two had a solid television match when Sting captured the title, but Hardy will have to be at his absolute best to deliver a memorable pay-per-view main event. Sting just captured the title, which has changed hands too many times lately, so I'll go with Sting to retain.

Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez in a First Blood match: The match is billed as being second from the top on the TNA website, yet neither man was given time to promote the match during the go-home show. First Blood matches strike me as an easy way to let the heel get a fluky win to keep the feud going. Thus, I'll go with Hernandez.

Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Anderson in a No. 1 contenders match. The Anderson character is arguably the most compelling character in TNA right now. He's playing a lone wolf tweener type who is obsessed with getting his rematch for the TNA Title. They had Anderson beat up Sting backstage on Thursday. If the winner is getting the title match at Lockdown, then one would think that they could build to a Sting vs. Anderson cage match rather than a cage match between two guys who just made peace on Thursday. Thus, I'll go with Anderson if I have to pick a winner. That said, I think it's possible that we get a couple of clunky finishes to set up a Sting vs. Hardy match inside the cage at Lockdown or even a three- or four-way match.

Matt Hardy vs. A.J. Styles: Here's a chance for Hardy to step up and shine. He's come a long way in terms of getting himself back in shape since he first arrived, but he's yet to deliver a truly memorable performance since arriving in TNA. Working with Styles gives him that opportunity. I assume we'll get a lot of interference by Ric Flair, but I'll take Styles going over with the goal of keeping the Fortune guys hot.

Kazarian vs. Jeremy Buck vs. Max Buck vs. Robbie E in an Ultimate X match for the X Division Title: It's a shame that the three challengers have been made to look so weak on television lately. The Ultimate X match is TNA's finest gimmick match. Hell, it's the best gimmick match in years. It should be saved for special occasions and the company should go out of their way to make sure it feels like a major event when they roll out the gimmick. This could be opening match fodder. Kazarian hasn't lost the charisma he finally showed during his last heel run. It's carried over nicely since the Fortune turn, and this feels like a showcase for him. Kazarian wins, but keep an eye out for drama involving the Generation Me guys, as they appear to be on the verge of a split. I hope it's just a tease because they haven't even scratched the surface of what they could do as a team.

Beer Money vs. Ink Inc. for the TNA Tag Titles: There's plenty of speculation that Ink Inc. will turn heel. The company needs heel teams now that Beer Money are the heel champions. I'd prefer to see a heel turn by the Motor City Machine Guns once they return to television. The match has the potential to be good with Shannon Moore doing the bulk of the work for his team and Jesse Neal performing the spots he's comfortable with. I see no reason for a title change, so I'll go with Beer Money to retain.

Bully Ray vs. Tommy Dreamer: The Bully facing the peacemaker from Thursday. The build for the match was odd given that Dreamer's role was to pull Devon off of Ray, but these two are more than capable of delivering the crowd pleasing brawl of the night. I'll go with Ray winning the match when Devon's interference backfires. Are we heading for a three-way feud between the former ECW trio?

Angelina Love and Winter vs. Sarita and Rosita for the TNA Knockouts Tag Titles: Yes, there are still TNA Knockouts Tag Titles. No, I don't know what happened to the little red toy belt that no one cares about (also known as the TNA TV Title), the top ten contenders rankings, or even Abyss for that matter. The Love and Winter dynamic is fun in small doses. Sarita and Rosita need something to make them relevant so a title change wouldn't shock me, but I'll stick with Love and Winter retaining the titles to keep their odd partnership alive.

TNA is also teasing footage of the Jeff and Karen Jarrett honeymoon from Orlando, so I assume this means Kurt Angle will show up to ruin their good time. I hope the footage is kept to a minimum since it feels like more of an Impact thing than a pay-per-view bit.

Join me tonight at 7:00 p.m. CT for TNA Victory Road pay-per-view coverage.

Is WWE Raw expanding to three hours per week a good move for business?
Yes. It's an extra hour of exposure and presumably a better programming fee.
