WWE Raw Hits
Chris Jericho attacks Shawn Michaels: As I noted in my live coverage last night, this segment was especially a treat for fans who have been around long enough to remember HBK putting former partner Marty Jannetty through the glass window on the old Barber Shop set, which launched his heel turn. One can only hope this puts the ambiguous Jericho character to rest. Don't get me wrong, it was fun while it lasted, but it's time to turn Y2J loose as a full fledged heel. I'm really looking forward to seeing Jericho and Michaels use a more aggressive style now that their feud has taken a violent turn.
JBL vs. John Cena: I must admit that putting this match in the "Hits" section might have something to do with the fact that I was just happy to see a match go longer than a few minutes. Triple H was also solid on commentary, although it did get old listening to him and Cena take turns kissing the other's ass. It's cool if this all builds up to a breaking point, but I don't think I can stomach two more weeks of ego stroking and ass kissing.
WWE Raw Misses
McMahon's Million Dollar Mania: The first call was kinda fun, but it was all downhill from there. OK, I got a kick out of that one guy saying, "Holy shit" when he won, but these segments were everything I feared they would be when I wrote my Monday Blog. These segments went on way too long and I was actually embarrassed for Vince McMahon. More on that below.
Vince McMahon: I realize that many wealthy people start to lose touch with the rest of the world when the stop doing everyday things such as buying their own groceries, but I had no idea they didn't dial their own telephones. How else does one explain Vince's embarrassing attempts to contact contestants? Can't someone get him one of those phones for the elderly with the giant numbers?
"Did You Know?" facts So I'm trying to enjoy a night of wrestling and instead I was subjected to the world's worst game show host and a few "Did You Know?" clips that were fresh off Saturday morning cartoons. Now you know these segments sucked, Vince. And knowing is half the battle.
Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H: Hunter dominated the match and then John Cena helped Jeff earn a countout victory. This did nothing for Hardy. Granted, he didn't lose clean to Hunter and Cena in back-to-back weeks, which would have cemented his status as a mid-card performer, but he didn't exactly come out of this match looking stronger than ever. I think Billy Kidman got more out of that time he beat Hulk Hogan back in WCW than Jeff did from "winning" this match.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Paul Burchill: The match lasted a little over three minutes and was pretty much forgotten by the time the show was over. The regular television time is helping Burchill, but neither man is getting over as a direct result of this feud.
Beth Phoenix: TNA's female monster heel plowed through everyone in the Knockouts Division and is now beating fans and former wrestlers in $25,000 challenge matches. Meanwhile, WWE's female monster heel is losing clean to the champion in a non-title match and then getting roughed up afterward by another female wrestler. Advantage: TNA.
