TNA Slammiversary PPV preview and predictions: King of the Mountain match, Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles, LAX vs. Team 3D, women's tag match
By Jason Powell Jun 8, 2008 - 10:17 AM |

The following predictions are made without any inside knowledge of the planned match finishes. In other words, I’m guessing just like you are. Check back tonight for "Live Coverage" of the TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view.
Samoa Joe vs. Booker T vs. Christian Cage vs. Rhino vs. Robert Roode in a King of the Mountain match for the TNA Title: Kevin Nash is the special enforcer referee, meaning there should be some interesting exchanges between him and Joe. Booker seems like the only real threat to Joe's title in this match given his recent heel push. Ultimately, though, it would be a big mistake to take the title off Joe this quickly. Cage has been delivering some strong performances lately and I expect him to stand out in this match. Roode needs to be booked in a manner that makes him look like a worthy contender. Joe retains.
Kurt Angle vs. A.J. Styles: The big question is Angle's health. He did not wrestle on the house show on Friday night, so this will be his first match back since he did further damage to his neck in Korea. Styles is in the midst of a huge babyface push. If Kurt is healthy, this should be a hell of a match and the likely show stealer. Styles is on such a roll right now that it would be a mistake to have him lose clean. He stated in his interview that he doesn't care about pinning Angle as much as he does hurting him. The person who makes that statement generally ends up losing, so I'll take Angle.
LAX vs. Team 3D for the TNA Tag Titles: These teams generally have good brawls, but it feels like we've seen this match too many times before. LAX is in the same boat as Joe in the sense that they're title reign is just getting started. My guess is that LAX wins the match, but the heel faction makes them pay for it afterward.
Petey Williams vs. Frankie Kazarian for the X Division Title: Williams worked at the house show on Friday night for the first time since he suffered a broken orbital bone. Kaz appears to be healthy despite the fact that he suffered an injury in last month's three-way pay-per-view main event, which is why he was limited in the next set of tapings. He looked good at the most recent tapings he's getting a TNA Title shot on Monday, so he must be healthy. If Williams is ready, this should also be a very good X Division match. I can't imagine why he would win this match if he's getting a TNA Title shot on Monday, but I'm sure they'll make him look strong. Petey wins due to outside interference by Scott Steiner.
Angelina Love and Velvet Sky and Mickie Knuckles vs. Gail Kim and ODB and Roxxi. For the love of all that is good and decent, please tell me TNA scraped up enough cash to get Knuckles some decent looking ring gear. Those green gym shorts and the black tank top just don't cut it. This is obviously a big match for Knuckles, who by all accounts was TNA's second choice for the enforcer role she's playing (TNA wanted Jazz). If Mickie does the job, then it's probably safe to assume that her run won't last long. I'll take the babyface team.
Awesome Kong's open challenge: It will be interesting to see which women's wrestlers they will bring in after having three known names show up on Thursday. It would seem awfully silly if they went back to having her wrestle fans again. Either way, it's too soon to deliver the payoff to this angle, so Kong should squash her opponent.
Jay Lethal and SoCal Val wedding: Kamala, George Steele, Jake Roberts, and Koko Ware will be there as groomsmen. A small part of me wishes they were going to my sister's wedding next weekend. Sonjay Dutt is the best man and everyone on the planet other than Lethal, Val, Mike Tenay, and Don West expects him to turn heel. This feels like it should be on Spike TV rather than pay-per-view. Here's hoping they don't dedicate too much pay-per-view time or the live crowd and the viewers at home could get restless.
Join me tonight for "Live Coverage" of TNA's Slammiversary pay-per-view.
