TNA Impact Hits

Robert Roode: Chris Jericho made an excellent point on Twitter about how Roode and others should put over their company as being the best in the world during their promos, yet I still enjoyed the hell out Roode's performance. James Storm has always come across like the more charismatic of the Beer Money tag team, and Roode struck me as more of the short and simple guy on the mic, but he showed strong passion here. Given the subject matter, it probably wasn't too hard for him to get into the promo and believe the words that were coming out of his mouth. I still believe Beer Money has the potential to be the most over act in the entire company now that they've turned babyface.

Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett: It was an off night for Karen on the mic, although it wasn't so off that it was miss worthy. However, Kurt played his angry part nicely, and Jeff Jarrett is doing the best work of his TNA career. The MMA themed comedy character was a blast, and his role as "Daddy Jeff" has been a riot. Granted, I could do without the stipulation that Kurt is fighting for custody of his children on Sunday, but Jeff is really shining on the mic these days. Here's hoping he is finally portrayed as a real in-ring threat rather than a chickenshit heel. This feud should feel like a showdown between two elite wrestlers rather than Jeff playing the part of a heel who always has to cheat to win.

A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy: Jarrett lost the match, but at least they didn't have Angle pin him. Styles got a moment of a glory now that he's a babyface again, and the Angle and Jarrett storyline continued. Hardy continued to shine as a heel character regardless of the fact that I think it was foolish to turn the most popular babyface in the company.

Overall show: This probably looks crazy given all of the bitching I'm about to do below, but I must say that I like the direction of the top programs and the decision to turn Fortune babyface. The biggest problem I had with the show was that the in-ring product is just too chaotic. They were trying to cram too many feuds into the tag matches, and the singles match had multiple men interfering. Make no mistake about it, Impact failed in terms of being a go-home show, yet I still felt entertained by the end of the two hour show despite all of the issues I had with it.

TNA Impact Misses

Bull Ray and Devon: What incentive do viewers really have to see them wrestle at the pay-per-view when they gave away the spot of Devon and his sons getting their revenge on Ray last night? I'm sorry but the added "hook" of Devon's sons accompanying him to the ring or wrestling or whatever the hell they are doing just isn't enough. I'm sure these two will have a lively pay-per-view brawl, but the storytelling struck me as being ass backwards. Furthermore, the six-man tables match they worked in was a desperate attempt to spotlight too many feuds at once.

Knockouts Tag: See the last line above and then apply it to this match instead. The post-match bit with Madison Rayne and Mickie James was lousy because the verbiage didn't seem to apply to anything we've been seeing on TV. Madison is trying to plant the seed that Mickie is washed up and should considering hanging up the boots. Okay, it's a heel move, but why did Mickie look like she was taking those words to heart? Meanwhile, I nearly forgot about the debut of Rosita by the time the show was over.

Mr. Anderson vs. Matt Morgan: Televised TNA Title matches should feel special, particularly when you're giving away a rematch of the advertised main event of last month's pay-per-view. This was anything but special, and the ref bump finish was really weak. I liked the idea of Jeff Hardy watching the match on top of the ladder to sell his pay-per-view match. By the way, who thought it was a good idea to wait until there were roughly 45 minutes left in the go-home show to officially announce the pay-per-view main event? That said, I did like the way Anderson was spotlighted during the run-in at the end of the show. Playing his music and letting him shine in that segment made him feel like the standout performer that the champion should be.

Jesse Neal and Shannon Moore: Is it really a good idea for a babyface tag team to say they represent one percent of the fans, meaning they don't represent 99 percent of the fan base? Worse yet, this was a sloppy segment that needed a second take. As one person in the industry put it, it's not like someone butchers a line on a show such as "Two and a Half Men" and it makes the final cut.

Robbie E vs. Suicide vs. Brian Kendrick: Let me get this straight, TNA brought back Christopher Daniels to play the Suicide character and then decided that the best way to reintroduce him was to have him lose? Hell, Rosita's debut felt hot in comparison. By the way, is anyone else surprised to see three heels working the X Division match at the pay-per-view?
