TNA Impact Hitlist: Ace Young, Christian Cage, Tomko, Awesome Kong, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Hermie Sadler, new heel group
By Jason Powell May 30, 2008 - 11:46 AM

TNA Impact Hits

Angelina Love and Velvet Sky: I dig the brown bag treatment. My only criticism of the gimmick is that they don't really look the party girl type in jeans and t-shirts. Bust out the cocktail dresses once in a while. Overall, though, this duo is doing a really good job.

Heel Faction: They don't have a name and they haven't even dubbed themselves a unit yet, but I like the way Kurt Angle, Booker T, Tomko, and Team 3D have been put over so strong over the last two weeks. I thought A.J. Styles should have been left off this week's show to sell the five-on-one attack from last week, but the heels looked strong again this week. Kurt Angle really stood out via his intensity during his attack on A.J. Styles late in the show.

Christian Cage vs. Tomko: A quality television match. Both wrestlers worked hard and their efforts made it seem like earning a spot in the King of the Mountain match is a big deal. Meanwhile, James Storm and Rhino brawled as if they were more consumed with their personal feud than earning a spot in the pay-per-view main event. Cage has always been a good worker, but he's taken his game to a new level so far this year.

Awesome Kong vs. Fan: I didn't like the way they skipped over the introduction of the fan, but the result was still cool. Kong looks more vicious and powerful than ever.

Abyss video: Granted, it was just more of the same, but I am looking forward to his return. I'm curious to see what changes he's made to his look, and I hope he tones down the garbage wrestling and develops more confidence in his wrestling ability.

TNA Impact Misses

Ace Young video: I hope TNA worked out an incredibly one sided deal that worked out to their favor, because otherwise there's no excuse for airing a bubble gum pop song by some guy that the average wrestling fan couldn't care less about. As if the video wasn't bad enough, they actually had this guy interfere in a match as part of a finish. Think of your realistic demographic and keep the F-list celebrities away from the ring during matches.

Hermie Sadler on commentary: Enough already. No one cares what he thinks about TNA matches. I'm sure he makes the company a fortune by using their talent on his UWF shows, but does that justify giving him a spot on commentary? Why not just place a damn chair next to Mike Tenay and Don West and place a sign on it that reads, "This space for rent."

Black Machismo: He's the most oblivious moron on the planet. Everyone else in the world can tell that there's something up with Sonjay, yet Machismo asks him to serve as his best man. Foreshadowing is one thing and making the babyface look like an idiot is another.

Opening segment: There was some good mic work in there, but the segment felt like it went on forever. By the time it was done, nothing stood out. The show was teased with the "A.J.'s Revenge" title, yet after spending an eternity on the other acts involved in the segment, they cut to commercial just seconds into his first appearance on the show and while he was still attacking the heels with a chair. It still amazes me that found time for this lengthy segment, an Ace Young music video, and Eric Young's search for Elvis, yet featured only seven minutes of actual wrestling during the first hour of the show.
